I'd say Mbappe is like Luka. He can score as much as he wants but his lack of defense and running means RM give up even more goals than he puts in.
Bruno Fernandes is like that at Man United too in my opinion- he creates a lot but his losing the ball and playing in moments, and running about like a headless chicken, puts pressure on them defensively too.

It's far more complicated than Mbappe and Bruno of course, but it's a factor.

Also I originally thought you meant Luka Modric and was like 'what'? But I see now you're talking about a basketball player.

Yeah looking back I should have clarified a bit more! In today's game walking players kill you on defense.

True mate. The game is more about athleticism and pressing than it's ever been isn't it.
A lot of teams are putting up 115-120 km (even 120+) routinely in CL games, which only 10 years ago was an absurd amount that would rarely be seen.

The 2015 CL semis between Bayern and Barca (Camp Nou leg in particular) were talked about because of how amazing the off the ball movement was by the players, but that match had both teams doing just above115 KM.

Pressing has changed the way the game is played.

Like with video game graphics, we are reaching diminishing returns in human fitness in stuff, including football. How much further can a team or player really run over 90 minutes?

If at some point 95 percent of players are athletic pressing monsters, you wonder if the game will look back to mavericks with the ball to gain an edge. Or maybe it will just be fittest, strongest, faster, best pressing team wins, with the odd moment of football genius interspersed.

Not saying it's bad, just different. Not really my thing but I appreciate it at the same time.

Does this make Klopp one of the most influential managers in modern Football?

He's the king of pressing.

Like all sports once the nerds start running all kinds of analytics they figure the game out to the point it just becomes a formula and not even the same sport we grew up.

In a sense, but if there's force like Young Messi, no analytics would help against such a force.

But they could still play better even Vs him.
100% agree especially while young.

I would also say Messi walking so much in games is probably a contributing factor to him winning 0 UCLs after the age 27. It took a very intense Argentina team to cover that part of his game up in the late years.

We should hope Yamal keeps his intensity going as long as possible luckily he is very very young and a gamebreaker that analytics currently has 0 shot of stopping right now
