7 - Ferran Torres

As I said before, there are two players in world football who can potentially provide more quality than Ferran as a striker in the current Barcelona model:

1. Alvarez

2. Isak

In that order. I'm not entirely sure about Isak, by the way. Why?
1. Will he be as successful in tight spaces.
2. His medical record
3. His work without the ball. There is questions

So I come to the conclusion that we have one clear candidate - Alvarez.

If you can't get him, Ferran should be the starter.

Even if we get him, Torres should stay. A huge number of matches. Rafinha, Torres, Lamine, Alvarez - this will be the main four - between them, time will be distributed wisely.

No doubt he has been amazing, but I don't see us winning a CL with him being our starting CF. It's just not happening. He could win us LL's for many years as a starter, but in the CL we will undoubtedly have matches where opportunities will be less and will need someone like a Villa or Eto'o to put away that half chance.
To funny. Look. I see that people on this forum underestimate Ferran's conversion rate. They think his finishing is much worse than other strikers. If you ask them, the other strikers they dream about convert almost every chance. So take a look at this statistic.

I will take statistics without taking into account penalties taken.

LEAGUE (2024-2025)

PlayerNon-penalty xG / 90Non-penalty Goals / 90
Ferran Torres0.630.88
Julián Álvarez0.370.44
Kylian Mbappé0.530.64
Alexander Isak0.590.66
Erling Haaland0.650.67
Harry Kane0.500.61
Lautaro Martinez0.470.42

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE (2024-2025)

PlayerNon-penalty xG / 90Non-penalty Goals / 90
Julián Álvarez0.280.80
Lautaro Martinez0.470.94
Ferran Torres0.650.63
Erling Haaland0.780.70
Kylian Mbappé0.670.57
Harry Kane0.600.56
Alexander Isak0.400.29

*** I took Isak's statistics from the 2023-2024 Champions League, as his team did not participate in the Champions League this year.

So, if we look at performances in the domestic league, we can see that Ferran outperforms all the other players listed in terms of goals per 90 minutes and surpasses them all in terms of conversion rate (how effectively he converts his goal-scoring opportunities).

If we look at performances in the Champions League, we can see that Ferran outperforms all the other players listed, except Lautaro Martinez, Haaland and Alvarez, in terms of goals per 90 minutes and surpasses all of them except Lautaro and Alvarez in terms of conversion rate (how effectively he converts his goal-scoring opportunities).

I would love Alvarez or Isak here, it would be amazing.
Yes, Alvarez is the best option for us. Absolutely. Both in terms of playing on and off the ball.

I think this transfer can be closed for 80-90 million euros.

In our favor - he dreams of playing for Barcelona. Our attacking football.

Not in our favor - Simeone will put pressure on him. Plus he has many Argentine friends in Atletico.

There is no way in hell Atleti sells him anytime soon for less than they paid in the first place. We have to wait for his contract or break the bank

You have Flick. He has Ferran putting up incredible numbers.

This is the moment someone from England bites, like Arsenal, and you sell.

Gyokeres under Flick probably scores 100.

Torres combine greatly with both wingers, plays with with his back to goal, help pressing and actually is a positive finisher this season.

And this is consistent with what he was showing last year before injuries.

I love Flick and what he is doing, but people now are deciding not to rate player based on the system is weird. Attackers are good because of Flick, defenders are bad because of Flick.

Maybe give some credit/accountability to the players?

And Gyökeres isn't happening, he is eyeing England return. Just a question of whether it is Arsenal or Manu. And a friendly reminder that Gyökeres at same age was putting similar number to Torres, at Championship

This! Comparisons with Isak and Alvarez are idiotic to say the least. We wouldn't have won anything this season if Ferran started all games.

It's just a case of thinking that Flick can take a higher ceiling forward and make them perform better than Ferran has, by saying how well Ferran has managed to perform.

But it is true, perhaps Ferran as starter can score over 20 goals in LaLiga and the solution is already in house.
