The Inter equaliser was at what, the 93 minute though? And up until then Inter were pretty non threatening. In fact on either side of that Lamine hits the post, and then after the goal, Lamine misses the one on one.

For the goal off of the Sommer long ball, Cubarsi effectively clears the ball and is pushed in the air by Thuram. Not called.

Then Martin pauses for half a second meaning he doesn't receive the ball first to easily deal with it. Then he falls over/gets fouled and goes down. Claims he is fouled and not reviewed in VAR.

Then Araujo gets beaten to a simple cross by an Old Man.

There's nothing in the above that says we closed the match wrongly. There's nothing that says that even if we played defensively, that Inter wouldn't have capitalised on a late long ball either. Especially when infractions are not called and then defenders like Martin slip/fouled and Araujo doesn't react to the man he is marking.

Extra time, different story. Even then, the winning goal was mostly down to huge defensive errors. And even then Lewandowski misses a goal he would usually score in his sleep (and to be fair he tried to score in his sleep by closing his eyes!), and Sommer made about 3 very good stops in that period.

And after going 4-3 we can't judge defense on the last 20 minutes anyways as tactics go out the window needing a goal.
You put it well. This tie seems like one of those 'how the cookie crumbles' CL matches.

We played well but they were ruthlessly efficient in front of goal.

The whole point of defending deeper is to minimize the risk of individual defensive errors or some referee error to lose you a CL tie like that.

Your explanation Porque is showing that Flick could have got away with his huge uneeded risk in late game if X or Y happened as it should have. I agree with it, but it's not quite addressing the issue.

Your explanation Porque makes a good point that Flick could have got away with his huge uneeded risk in late game if X or Y happened. I agree with it, but it's not quite addressing the issue.
Really, Araujo should be able to hold Acerbi from scoring though, to be fair.

Yes, and we knew he isn't doing what he should be doing individually before. WE KNEW our defenders tend to fuck up individually in 1 vs 1. We took a risk we did not need to take, and it blew up in our face.

Inter plays deep like no one else and conceded 6.

But as said, a manager with balls to play football the right way is part of the club's DNA. Flick is a tremendous good fit for a club like Barcelona. He fits here far more than he did at even Bayern.

We will never know aye. That's the beauty of games like this. So many talking points for us to waste our day going over.

Don't get me wrong, I see where you are coming from and am still absolutely gutted about going out. We don't usually go out like this, we usually go out by being battered and the result without doubt, or chasing a goal for most of the match.

I havent felt this gutted about an exit since Zabaleta knocked us out with the Silver goal in 2003.

All those fawning over Inter and how they are smart should start watching them regularly if that's your thing.
Some people have no sense of appreciation even when being presented with champagne football.

20 shots, 71% possession, playing with many of our kids.

Imagine yourself being Inter fan rooting not to concede and hanging by tips of the fingers of Sommer. Cornered like mouses on your own stadium.

1 vs 1 with attackers is another thing, but with a 37 year old center back is crazy.

I get the complaints about the tactics but I also agree with Porque, I think we have been unfortunate with how these two legs played out.
They were incredibly effective in front of goal and we also conceded many unnecessary goals.

At the end of the day no tactic can be 100% anyway, so we made some tactical mistakes, but based on what we saw, with this approach we should be winning most knockout ties against them.

I am confident we can return here next season also.

I doubt we can return here next season. This looked like a monumental challenge that is gonna he hard to repeat until the finances drastically improve.

But I agree, outside of bums and frauds like Araujo I can't hate on anyone but more like be sympathetic.

But that so-called captain and leader. Make a package of our two captains and ship them to Saudis. That's their level.

Well, football is like that - it's unfair. The same Man City couldn't win the Champions League for a long time with Pep, although almost every year they were top 1 in terms of quality of play.
Did we deserve to reach the final more than Inter? Yes.

Can I say that we played very high-quality football in this confrontation? No.

To miss 7 from Inter in two matches + 30 minutes, come on, guys, it's just a nightmare.
