Still, if he is not fit to play and benefit the team, then he shouldn't do it. Like Ronaldo who was a liability for Portugal.

Likewise, if it seems like he can't have a good run without injuries, it makes no sense to force himself.

Also, it would be sad if Argentina had been knocked out and Messi's last match was marred by him walking off injured and crying.

That was borderline bullying of him by the Ronaldo fanboys.

Now that it looks so bleak for Ronaldo, they (I don't mean Fati here) say people should appreciate both - after destroying Messi in the past :lol:

I would say the best international trophy cabinet along with Pele?

Pele won 2 WCs as main man (he didn't play more than a group game or two in the third)

Messi has 2 WC finals as main (1 WC trophy), 5 Copa finals (2 Copa trophies), Finalissima

Pele had better teammates too (Garrincha and a bunch of all time greats, while Messi's only had Di Maria who obviously isn't Garrincha and co. level).

Honestly wasn’t just the fanboys. Also some dumb analysts trying to be hipster. Said to be amongst truly greatest like zidane ronaldo maradona needs to at least win WC.

Always thought it was dumb everything hinged on higuain having bottled the final in a copa and wc 2014

Even without wc would still be GOAT.

The thing they overlook is, and I have said it a million times about the pro C Ronaldo/anti Messi camp.

It wouldn't matter if he'd won nothing, and Ronaldo had won everything.

Achievement is not talent. Nobody can ever claim that Ronaldo is a better footballer than Messi. It's clear that Messi is miles better at playing the game.

Achievement/trophies/stats etc are a different topic, and dependent on team-mates more than your own ability.

Yes. But unfortunately history is not that kind. Especially in sports. People just tend to look at prizes cause it takes less time. But glad now that is also heavily in favour of goat

Messi is a lot more reasonable to know when he should step aside. He has been mentioning this in recent interviews.

Don't think Messi is going to retire internationally anytime this year though. Losing both Di Maria and Messi at the same time would be a huge blow to the nation.
