Lionel "The Greatest of All Time" Messi V2

This whole crying over how much we paid him needs perspective. We got a consistent amount of output from Messi for his wages, even if they were incredibly high. Got more output from him than Coutinho, Dembele, Raphniha and Ferran combined. Total cost of them? about 350m + wages for all the years they were here or are still here. Totalling over 400m. I know what the better deal is.

We also had some level of boost in revenue with him here. The financial troubles happened because the board couldn't foresee a pandemic ruining the clubs finances, could anyone see that coming? We were doing great financially, with the highest ever revenue recorded for a football club.
What kind of return have we received from Leo in the last 5 years? Eternal shameful departures from the Champions League? wins in La Liga. So we won La Liga without him.

There is no need to overestimate Messi here. No football player in the world should receive 100+ million euros a year. This is absurd. De Bruyne's contribution to the success of his team is not so less than that of Leo, but KDB receives 20 million, and Messi 100+ million euros

De Bruyne get 20 million in City, Messi got 100+. Do you think in football terms the return on De Bruyne is less than 5 times? At the same time, keep in mind that De Bruyne is not exempt from defensive work.

Would Leo have created and scored as many goals if he had to participate in pressure and defense like all other players?

Imagine that a second ago you made a lot of high-speed sprints, participating in pressure and defense, and now you got the ball and you need to - make a cool sharpening pass / go into dribbling / advance the ball on the sprint.

Now imagine that you are not involved in defense at all, pressing, you were just standing, your team fought off the opponent’s attack, you got the ball, you are fresh and you need to do the same - give a cool sharpening pass / go into dribbling / advance the ball on jerk. Do you feel the difference?
Imagine De Bruyne playing under non-WC managers like Koeman, Valverde and Setien.

Maybe that's why you think in football terms, De Bruyne seems more effective.

Yeah, you keep saying that, but Messi is not the answer for UCL success either, not anymore.

What he does for Argentina is not representative for what he does in UCL.
We never would have competed in CL with the current squad + Messi. Most probably wouldn't have issues to exit the groups, but not go to semis or final.

The most interesting thing is that we raised his cosmic salary Leo Messi and after 30 years. This is a fucking joke. I understand the Gundogan case, for example, he gets 8 and now he wants 10, but Leo got 100+ million euros and still wanted more and more. Yes, and VIP boxes at the Camp Nou for his family and the Suarez family.

You need to set ambitions higher, merely getting out of the group stages is not near good enough for a club like Barca.

Gotta say, I judged him wrong.
Imagined he's still way too good to semi-retire in MLS.

Shame, was looking forward seeing him for one final season wearing Blaugrana.
Seems that most are surprised he isn't this records driven ego maniac a la CR. The man had a goal(the WC) and he achieved it. He always prioritized his family and wants to just chill.

Other than winning another CL there isn't much else he can do career wise. And since it didn't happen with PSG...

Underpaid during his prime, overpaid in the years after. After he signed that contract he had one of the greatest seasons ever seen in football. But if you're one of them that puts anfield on him we'll have to call it a day.

We won la liga after spending hundreds of millions and mortgaging our future lol

Messi contributed more to several UCLs and a treble whilst being paid less than De Bruyne.

You guys always talk about his wages, but never talk about how much he generates to the club.

You should focus on other players in this club who cost more to the club than what they generate, both sportingly and financially.
