The biggest reason PSG are a threat is Mbappe.

The other 2 of the front 3 have to play up to the level Mbappe is playing for them to have a chance in the CL.

Mbappe is their biggest weapon by a countrymile.

If he did there'd be no option in the contract.
At best it's a way to quickly get a raise, but far more reasonable to claim he only renewed on his terms to placate leaders of two countries in a World Cup year.

Player option is probably just to make sure psg receive some money for his transfer. He tried it once before when psg rejected the 180m offer from Madrid before he became a free agent.
