VVD will be held up as one of greatest CBs and most complete CBs and held in higher regard.
Will probably go down as Liverpool and EPLs best ever CB and many say is already.
He has been their most important player in a side that has won CL and league title and been named as second best player in Europe behind Messi.
No one bar some Barca fans will be thinking Pique compares to that due to trophies.

Since you're Scottish, I assume you follow SPL? How was Big Virg at Celtic? Did you see him becoming the beast he has turned out to be??
I have seen him score some bangers for Celtic.

Much better for Liverpool than Celtic.
Best CB by far but switched off too much...which looking back maybe because week in week out too easy for him.
Was not all that great for them in Europe either.
Can see why top clubs were not sure of him back then.
Went up a level massively for Soton then again at Liverpool.

Yeah remember him having concentration issues and occasional brainfarts for the Saints. Which is weird, because at LFC he's one of the composed and concentrated players you'll see. Klopp must have ironed the lapses of concentration out.

And yeah, Mighty is an understatement for VVD. Try watching him play.

Madrid midfield didn't own Bayern at all. Bayern at least matched them there in all their clashes when it was 11v11.

RM midfield was very good but not people are going overboard...RM's CLs still mainly come from star forwards scoring big goals and the defense remaining stout (especially the GK. Navas and Courtois unbelievable in those CL wins).
There's plenty of CL ties where RM didn't have the initiative (I'm not talking about possession, but more control of the flow and tempo of the game).

Haha. Xaviesta, Busquets was great 09-11 but that's it. Real midfield much more adaptable, durable and functional especially in cl. Too many nostalgic idiots out here. Fact 8s we underachieved in cl at our peak. Real did the opposite.
