FC Barcelona Finances

Good point.

This is the key extract from the Spotify PR that sums up in better words what I was trying to say.

Spotify is working with Bar?a to leverage our access to in-stadium elements to amplify artists and enable discovery. For example, using the dynamic digital displays to showcase and geo-target relevant artists to Bar?a’s global TV audience. While viewers in Europe may see a message about one artist, TV viewers in India could be served a different and locally relevant message.

Second, as shirt sponsor, Spotify will work to create a new platform to amplify artist voices. We think this can be more than just a Spotify logo on a shirt. The question we’ve asked is: How can Spotify work with FC Barcelona to make the shirt a bigger platform with more opportunities for artists?

If you think about how we’ve used our marketing platforms in the past, which regularly spotlight new and female artists through our EQUAL and RADAR programs, you can get a sense of the approach we’ll be thinking about for the partnership. We are excited to see what we can dream up together.

I think our selling point for Spotify is our huge global fanbase which Spotify wants to tap into (they were allegedly disappointed to find out only about 1% of the 300M "Barca fans" across the globe are "registered" with the club and hence the figures of the deal were allegedly reduced) so it makes a lot of sense for Spotify, I wonder what are we going to get out of this beyond the money from them, both tangibly and intangibly? Are we going to create some sort of special edition jerseys with Nike and Spotify, for example featuring some of these artists etc.? I do think it will help us grow our brand power.

MD with some details about the Spotify contract.

https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futb...458/cifras-acuerdo-barca-spotify-detalle.html

- first team shirt + women's team shirt - 57,5m
- training kits (front) - 5m
- naming rights Camp Nou - 5m for next 6 years with an option to extend the deal for further 15 years for around 15-20m/year
- additional clause for "good practice of the activation of the contract" -2,5 m (absolutely no idea what this means and what the club has to do to get this money)

Really underwhelming deal tbh. No wonder they didn't announce these numbers publicly. Also understandable if Reverter left because he thought this deal wasn't good enough.

Cheapest training kits. Weird since we have the most followers on social media, which is where the training kits are mostly exposed.

The numbers of City, PSG and Juve should be ignored.

But other than that, the only thing we really been shorted on is the stadium naming rights.

Arsenal and Tottenham got comparable deals to ours, 4-3 years ago.

Sleeve sponsorship deals are between 10-12M for most top clubs. Maybe we'll get a sleeve sponsor.

Real to break 100M barrier with the new stadium + stars like Mbappe.

They were getting fairly comparable deals when Barca had not long won the CL and had MSN.

The EPL is huge the eyes it has on it and the bigger clubs are watched week in week out.

Current Barca deal being 10m odd less than Reals when signed on back of BBC dominating CL as well is not all that bad.

Plus rarely are these deals for 3 or 4 years.

The stadium was never going to get a lot until rebuilt and also getting paid for a year wont be there.

I was thinking earlier, that once Spotify execs saw the state of the stadium that they must of wanted to reduce the fee paid.

It's not one of those interactive marketing points like the US arenas, or what it's planned to be.

That and folk realising it is same stadium with different name and old name will stick.

Wouldnt be surprised if fudged numbers a bit to try and make specifically shirt deal a bit better and training kit a bit less as know that one get a bit more headlines.

Definitely shortchanged by Spotify, which we gave almost all of our assets to, something Ferran Reverter reportedly opposed to. Only hope is to get a sleeve sponsor but will probably not exceed 8-10m.

Madrid will probably get an even better deal next year with Mbappe and possibly Haaland coming.
