Not Barca fans, just weirdos like OGBarca, etc who've had a thing against Messi for years for some odd reason.

It's a psychologic thing.

I think deep down he loves Messi just as much as the rest of us, but he feels betrayed and blames the club's failures on Leo. It's his way of coping with the losses in recent years.

If OG saw Messi on the street he'd be the most starstruck guy there. Leo is like a son who failed him.

Look a bit outside your little bubble and you will see everyone neutral (not the pathetic little CR fanboys) having an issue with it...

So, yes, the people here having an issue with it are less detached from reality than the ones celebrating

Messi was and will always be the epitome of greatness in football. That's why nobody should question why he's got so many haters > it's simply because people get tired of one man always being on top of the football world. He dominated the game for so long that people nowadays don't appreciate his talent anymore. The way he plays the game is something so unique in football and only a few selected players in history could prevail all the challenges during such a timespan like he did (Pele and Maradona come to mind). Lewandowski deserved the 2021 Ballon D'or for scoring so many goals in Bundesliga and Messi doesn't deserve it even though he dragged this dead Barca team scoring 30 goals in La Liga (3x harder than Bundesliga) and keeping their hopes for the title alive so many times and on top of that scoring a goal in the final of the Copa del Rey which Lewandowski could only dream of? And not only that, he goes ahead and delivers an all time performance in the Copa America dragging his international team with a leader performance in every single game bar maybe the final, producing absurd numbers and records.

Try and switch Lewandowski's 2021 and Messi's 2021. Messi would finish 9th and Lewandowski 1st without question who deserves it and who doesn't.

I'll even go further. Imagine Messi scores so many goals in 2022 (only in Ligue 1) being a poacher (which can never happen obviously, because Messi is much more than just a typical striker) and wins it, scores a couple of goals in the World Cup but Argentina finish last in the group, and someone delivers an all timer performance in the same international tournament and scores a multitude of goals in the ligue as well (let's say significantly less than Messi in that typical year). Messi wouldn't even sniff the Ballon D'or, believe me. People just have that sympathy for Lewa since he should've won the 2020 Ballon D'or without question, but that shouldn't mean Messi didn't deserve his Ballon D'or this time around. Matter of fact, he was always the frontrunner after that ridiculous Copa America he produced on top of all the things he did until the votes have been casted.

Nice fairy tale for the na?ve of this world.

Messi was from meh to bad most of 2021, with the only exception a 4 month spell at Barca, when the whole team was clicking.

You can't change that by using the word 'dragging' in every 2nd sentence of yours.
He was part of the problem at Barca, and he 'dragged' the rest as much as the rest were playing only for him and not to their potential.
A malfunctional team, because it was constructed as an 'one-man team' the last many years, with Messi enjoying - IF NOT imposing himself - that privilege, despite the constant humiliations induced on the pitch because of that.

The critique has nothing to do with 'being tired of one person winning', but everything to do with being fair, and it should be clear by now that this joke award has nothing to do with fairness, and everything to do with a popularity contest; which is what it has degenerated into
And MEssi, as CR as well, is undeniably the most popular footballer of the last 15 years.

And in fact, your thought experiment, above all, shows that 'you don't get it'.
Switch Lewa's and Messi's 2021, and Messi wins this not by 30somthing points, but by 100 or 200 points.
That's how much more popular he is, and that's how much objective criteria are always bent in his favor

Wait, you confound the years. 2019 was the year in which messi lead a average barca to a cl semifinal and was nearly an one man army. 2021 barca was actually good, far away from dreadful.

Messi had even better season than Lewa in 2019 and he barely won ballon d'or by few points.

I really don't understand this obsession people have with "objective criteria" for an inherently subjective award.

Like that dumb debate over "well Ronaldo scored more goals so he should have won in 2011 but Messi won it because he had more trophies so CR should have won it in 2012." That's not how it's supposed to work.

There are no "criteria" or at least there shouldn't be. It's an award for the best footballer. That's it. There's no way to completley objectify that. It's not the golden boot or the "which player won the CL" award.

Messi wasn't anything special in 2021, but neither was anyone else. Lewandowski wasn't anywhere near as good as in 2020. Still by far Messi's worst Ballon d'or year though. I don't think he particularly deserved it but at the same time no one particularly deserved it over him.

Also  at Jorginho third. Kante was way better.

Couldn't care less about the utopia of objectivity when everyone knows that it doesn't exist anywhere, in anything.

Even the people trying to act like they're objective really aren't as their own biases will always affect their reasoning.

All I know is that Lewandowski definitely deserved to win in 2020. 2021 you can also argue strongly in his case, but winning the BuLi for what the 8th or 9th year in a row really isn't that impressive even though he broke Gerd Muller's record. Meanwhile Messi's story of winning with Argentina, winning Copa and being in the title hunt with a broken Barca team can be viewed as pretty impressive.

Ronaldo fans and Evra can also suck Messi's 7 BdO and keep crying :coffee:
