Will be a great defender when he learns to calm down a bit, he is always going 100 miles per hour.

Great stuff though.

Yea, needs to be more organized and develop his passing. Right now, he is strong and has awesome 1 vs 1 ability, but positioning, leading the line and distribution are all subpar.

If we talk about comparison with guys like Van Dijk, Ramos etc, he has to improve those a lot.

Yep exactly, he is kinda always in that
crouched position, getting ready to make a tackle or run, he needs to stand up read the game more.

Learn from those you mentioned or past great Barcelona defenders.

If he gets that in his game with his physical attributes, we have a winner on our hands.

Ramos was pretty bad when he was green. He used to be absolutely DEMOLISHED by the likes of R10 and Messi (okay it's R10 and Messi but still he received some epic beatdowns before he finally grew into an amazing defender).

VVD is a defensive genius. There was a point in time (18-20) where I thought he was just the perfect modern CB.

Yea, but he was REALLY green in 2005 or so when Ronnie trashed him. He was 19.

Yea, but Van Dijk hasn't been around for long. Late bloomer really. He's gonna be 31 at the end of this season, and he has like only 3 seasons since he emerged as a world-class CB.

I'd say Ramos is no1 defender of his generation basically.

Also we trashed VVD playing for Celtic 6-0. One player cannot change the game, not even Maradona in modern football.

So, the 2010s was Pique, Ramos, Boateng, Thiago Silva, Varane, Pepe, Mascherano, Hummels, Chiellini, Bonucci etc.

Ramos is best of the lot by a distance IMO. Mostly because of leadership, mentality, reading the game, and technical skills (shooting, heading, passing). Basically, defending and commanding the defense is so much more complex than tackling and brawling.

So, Araujo the way he is right now, if he doesn't develop a lot, he'll be a 2nd defender, needing a partner who is more technical, more organized, better reader of the game. Bascailly somebody who is what Pique thinks he is.

He's more like the Varane/Laporte to the Ramos/Dias.

1. Ramos
2. Pepe/Cheillini/Thiago Silva
3. Pique/Boateng/Varane/Mascherano
4. Hummels/Bonucci
