Arthur

Lad is very biased at times.

80-90% of people on this forum are biased.

The only difference is that let's say 70% of people are biased towards a holy trio:
1) chasing Pep's football till death/Barca DNA
2) young players
3) La Masia players

Then there are 10-20% of guys who are on the opposite part of that scale like me, Khaled, Messi983, Joan, Tackle for example, who are usually against players like Arthur and Puig and more open to different players like Rakitics.

And then there are guys in the middle, who just want good players, let's say JamDav and TeAmoBarca who are open to both types.

But in general, as a whole, the forum is insanely biased towards that Barca DNA/Pep/youth trio.

In practice it means that every player who has Barca DNA will be severly overrated from the start and the one who doesn't posses Barca DNA will be hated or underrated.
For example, Arthur and Rabiot.
In 2018, before coming to Barca/Juve, they were on a similar level: young players who weren't proven and with some nice skills.

That means: if they both had skills let's say 70/100 level, on our forum Arthur (or any player with Barca DNA skills) will instantly get +30 boost in skills, while the guy without Barca DNA skills will be downgraded from 70 to 40 right away.

And then, when matches start, that guy who in reality had 70 in skills (Arthur in this case) will play so-so (because he is not THAT good, he was just overrated from the day1 due to people needing HOPE).
Guys who are not impressed by him will say: he is not that good, guys.
But then this army of 70% guys who are by default leaned towards Barca DNA will start to defend him, give excuses and insult users who say that a new guy is meh.
And then we get a usual 6-12 months of debates, harsher words and insulting until (in majority of cases) that overrated Barca DNA player gets exposed and people accept that he was meh (and overrated) all the time.

But since the time is moving fast, till then we will already sign a new player instead of Arthur who is again automatically overrated by our fans and we just go into the same debate/insulting loop over again.

Why is this happening?
Because football is a hobby, an escape from the reality.
All of us have either health, financial, family, personal or love problems.
And football/Barca is our safe place/escape from the reality where we want a different world, where the world doesn't suck, where we are happy and where we are WINNERS in life.
And as said a lot of times in the past, one of the main reasons which drives people forward in life is HOPE.
If you want to be a WINNER, you need hope and an OBJECT OF HOPE which will turn your dreams into a reality.
And our fans are picking those young players and putting all their dreams and hopes into them.
And then: nobody wants to be a loser.
We all want to be special and winners.
We might be losers in real life, but this is why we ran away to Barca.
We can be winners here. On the wings of our young future gems, right?
And then people put unreasonable hope into Dembeles, Arthurs and Puigs.
Yet, when someone like me comes and say: Puig sucks = I am not only shitting on a poor Puig as a player. I am actually crushing dreams of that fan.
A fan has real life problems and now if I'll crush his Barcadreams, what is left to dream of? There is no hope, life is grey. And nobody wants that.

I have been writing on this forum for 7-8 years and it is feeling like Deja vu all the time.
1) player gets overrated
2) some users question his quality
3) those users get heavily insulted
4) a player gets tons of ridiculous excuses (Halilovic can't play at weak clubs since it doesn't fit his style, 5 coaches in a row don't like Riki and Halil for personal reasons, Dembele just need one season without injuries, Dembele is too fast for his teammates, Arthur is tired after 8 minutes because he runs around like crazy, Arthur doesn't have good defensive stats because he is pressing the opponents and forcing them into mistakes and then Raki and Busi are statpading interceptions due to Arthur's efforts, Arthur can't pass forward because nobody is running behind the defenders, media hates a poor guy Dembele, media has an agenda against Dembele for some reason, media has an agenda against Arthur for some reason etc).
5) player fails in the end
6) people move to the next shiny toy and just repeat everything from points 1 to 6

Or when we wanted to sign that fraud Jean Michel Seri as a controller.
For example, just think about that story: Arthur/Seri/Rabiot.
Arthur earned 100 coins from our fans even before we signed him.
Seri earned like 50-60 coins for nothing.
A lot of guys wanted him here.
Yet, Rabiot had like a negative amount of coins by our fans. He was below zero, because he couldn't recycle possession like Arthur or Seri.
He has nothing with Barca's DNA.
And that is this problem in a nutshell.
Fucking Seri or Denis earned million more coins than Rabiot from the day1.
Because they had 1-2 Barca Dna skills (and 1001 flaws).
Yet Rabiot is a starter for French NT today (World cup winners, btw), while Seri is probably milking cows somewhere as his main job, because he surely ain't a footballer anymore.
Denis will probably start to work as a hairdresser soon.
But in the eyes of our forum, they always had more coins from the day1, and it will never change with new players.
It will just repeat forever.

For years, it was fun for me to fight (and EXAGERRATE to try to bring back some balance into this) against this.
But lately: why bother?
If anything, we have learned that people in general don't change.
Messi983 and me won't sudddenly start to love Riki type of players.
While DonAndres, DonAk and other guys will hardly turn away from Pep, Thiago Alcantara and those ideas which are coded deep into their brains since they grew up during Pep's days and more or less till death, they will be coded that way.

And lately writing on Barcaforum feels like an eternal war of tribes and egos.
We all like Barca yet we insult eachother because brains of some are wired towards different type of players.

So, anyway, sorry for the long post rant.
But posting here for someone like me (who is not a Barca DNA purist) has turned into a masochism and just asking for insults 24/7.
People don't change.

As I have said in the post from yesterday, I have never hated Pep and Barca DNA till finding Barcaforum.
I was a fan of Rijkaard and slightly more physical players, but I didn't have anything against Pep back then.
I enjoyed more during Rijkaard, but I loved Pep's football back then.

But after discovering our forum, talking with our fanbase for a few years and reading this bias/overrating/cult following of Barca DNA/La Masia/youth, it started a revolt in me and hating Barca DNA, lol.

So, what is the point of arguing here?
It is like listening to a broken record from both sides.

It is like trying to change a republican into a democrate. Or the opposite way.
Majority of us (except a few like JamDav and TeAmo for example) have predecided opinions and any debates are worthless.

Sorry for the long rant.

Enjoy football and enjoy even Arthurs and Puigs.
Each of us is wired that way and that's it.

It's not yours or my fault.
So, why bother and fight?

Kisses and hugs

I agree we are all fans of Barca but healthy debate is fine it just goes too far one here, and you rightfully take the W against Arthur.

But it is time to take the L on Coutinho dawg

I don't see many Barca DNA purists here, certainly not 70%. I feel like I am almost the only one tbh.

Most users here seem to be no different than fans of AC Milan or Manchester United, a lot of nostalghia, but thinking that everything depends on being the club getting the next stars, ie the ones in the 18-23 age range that are most hyped at the moment. No real trust in the own style being enough.

Most supporters of any club will like the homegrown players a bit more, just as there will be a preference for younger/fresher players, this is the same for any club that most fans will see it that way.
So it is natural that many supporters will hype players like Bojan, Deulofeu, Halilovic etc, but they don't do it because they are Barca-DNA purists, the people hyping these people didn't understand very much (Bojan was a very good player though but very overrated by the same people underrating him now). Most of the canteranos getting playing time last 10 years were good enough for a squad role, better alternatives than Rakitic or Vidal, but many had unrealistically high expectations for them, and many of them performed worse as they got to play in systems and with players not really suited for them.

I'd prefer Arthur (nevermind personality and so on) to Ilaix and I preferred David Villa to Adama Traore.

Thing about Arthur is that he lost himself. The start was promising, but he went from worse to worse. His career is going downhill, with him degrading with each season instead of growing as a player.

His best game for us was vs Tottenham away, his first CL game. Tells you everything really. That should have been the start of a top career, but instead it was his highlight. Nothing to see here, just another talented player that got lost along the way.

He never got a real chance to prove if he was good enough as a player for Barcelona.
Under Valverde he usually played very well, but he played in a system not suited for him, with players not suited for him, and I don't think he ever got five 90-minute games in a row?
Setien didn't play him as I thought either, there was obviously things outside of the pitch influencing things.

He's not proving people wrong though, is he? That's the point. He's not doing a Salah, where he goes to Fiorentina, and Roma and plays great and proves people wrong. He's sulking and doing idiotic things that will only damage his career.

No.
I didn't follow Juve this season, but there could be a hundred reasons that he is not proving people wrong yet. Manager, system, players, having problem settling in, I could go on with a lot of potential factors. He doesn't appear to be very professional from the outside, and this would be the easy explanation to make. Maybe he won't ever prove anyone wrong, my explanation to that wouldn't be that he lacked football quality.

Arthur plays a different position than Salah, so things are a bit different, but he is about the same age as Salah was in Fiorentina/Roma I guess? I didn't rate Salah then, and I never rated him super high to be honest, but he played very well in Liverpool where the system was perfect for him and he was given a lot of freedom. When Xavi was 24 in 2004 he had the same amount of caps for Spain as Arthur have for Brazil now, and yes he was questioned by many.

This is the case with a lot of players, and goes with the point I tried to make in my earlier post - they are dependant on having the right role in the right system. United wasn't better under Fergie because the players he had were superior to the players 2016. There are a few players that will look great in any system, but you can't just try to get a lot of these players and put them on the pitch and hope everything looks great, it usually doesn't. System should go first, and then you should find the right players for the roles.

Barcelona already have a great system, that destroyed football. They should try to use that system and find players that suit that style.

As do 96% of the members. Now come up with some realistic comparisons. Villa and Traore

lol you are right on the last one, I lost myself in the comparisons. Let's say I prefer Braithwaite then. I also prefer Villa to Neymar.
But I think many honestly prefer Ilaix to Arthur though?

Arthur would not have fit the Barca system that dominated under Pep at all.

Trying to make out a supporter of 'pure Barca DNA' and claiming that Arthur has that in any way to point back to Peps dominating style is idiot or naive at best.

Not a fan of Arthur, but he's probably still a better player than Ilaix. People prefer his potential.

Edit: Ilaix's potential.

If the choice between Ilaix in squad now or Arthur it is not even a question.

Ilaix every time and would be surprised if the majority would want Arthur.
