Thought he prefer youngster???

I guess we will get a midfield of Frenkie - Pjanic - vdBeek/Wijnaldum, with a double pivot where Pjanic & FDJ can alternate between defensive work a building the play.
Messi in a false 9 role, where Wijnaldum/vdBeek can jump in to drive the box, exactly how the Dutch NT is playing right now.

Puig as a 10, with Messi as false 9 means we have no penetration into the box, won't work.

There is no way Koeman will play Frenkie-Puig-Pjanic. 433 is not his style. Actually Koeman as a coach is bad news for Puig unfortunately

Thank God. I'm sick of this obsession with 433. The formation should make the best use of the players he has. Sick of the cookie cutter template of 433.

Puig is an excellent number 10.

Number 10 in Koeman's systems is all about off ball movement and helping in defensive transitions ala van De Beek and Wijnaldum. Puig is more of a ball to feet player, a typical 8 who functions as a 8 in a 433, can't play in a midfield two either. The one next to Frenkie will be someone who can cover for Frenkie so he can run the game.

With Ten Haag's assistent from Ajax this is the most likely scenario which is fine for me but the board should let them have full control over transfers.

But looking bad for Puig.

I thought Koeman played 4-3-3 with Holland...

Says here he’s played 4-3-3 since early 2018 with them:

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/netherlands/spielplan/verein/3379/plus/1?saison_id=2018

He always played 4-3-3 with the Dutch NT, but the middle 3 operate completely different versus the Barca way.
He wants to have a double pivot so when FDJ brings the ball forward he gets cover of the second defensive midfielder.
Number 10 is the guy who is the legs of the midfield, doing defensive duty but also drops into the box or 1-2 with the upcoming midfielder.

That will be our major overhaul next year, because we don't have this type of player (Muller, Wijnaldum, vdBeek types), which enables the freedom FDJ needs.
Also we don't need to play with a traditional number 9 anymore, but a false 9 who exchanges with above players, this can be Messi or Griezmann

Cheers for the input. Ajax fan?

Hope we get VDB... what’s your thoughts on him moving here?

I don't care what's the formation as long as we play with wingers.

Wingers is important for his system and he put in himself in a interview months ago "Barca lack runners".

Now lets hope he gets 100% control over the transfer so he can fix the issues and not Barto trying to make signings to "please fans" like Lautaro.

I'm officially a member of Barca and have an Ajax club card, so both :)

I think a lot of people underestimate the player vdBeek is, just like Wijnaldum or Muller. Sure not the best technical midfielders you will see, but they have above average technical skills in close combination football.
Depending on the asking price of Ajax, I think it's a really good choice to go for vdBeek. Look at his combinations with FDJ on last years games against Real & Juve.
Only 2 points he really need to work on, is to be more clutch in front of goal, because he can miss open chances (just like Suarez) to many times and he loses his focus when things go bad, but still young.

Wijnaldum is much further in that regard, but he is less of a goal scoarer as Muller/vdBeek are.
But if Ajax asks 50m for vdBeek and we can pick up Wijnaldum for 25m, I will be hard to not go for the latter.

The system could work well for us with Messi as the false 9. Tadic played the role really well last season, but he had VDB, ziyech and neres always moving around and making runs in behind. Anything will be better than how we're playing now anyway.

We definitely need to start playing with wingers dawg.

-Devastating Dembouz
-Killah Konrad
-Atomic Ansu

Just some of the options KOEMAN needs to develop us into the most lethal team in Europe.

Nice.

Yeah what I’ve seen of him mostly last year he was unreal. The whole Ajax team was tbf. Definitely convinced me we need him based on what you’ve said about how FDJ and him set up in midfield, I think a lot of people weren’t sure on how he’d fit in here.

What’s your thoughts on getting Suarez back? Seen more reports today, also a few Ajax fans on Twitter want him back.
