I don't think the Copa will become a bi yearly thing. 2015 was the last Copa. 2016 was the 100 year anniversary, 2019 is 4 years after the 2015 one and next year is just the switch to an even number year. And IIRC CONMEBOL does want an all Americas cup, but CONCACAF(US/Mex) isn't playing ball.

Not to be a buzzkill, but just beating Qatar won't guarantee a spot in the knockout stage as it depends on other results.

The only way to go to the QF 100% guaranteed would be to beat Qatar and hope that Colombia at least ties vs Paraguay. TBH it's the former situation that I am most worried about.

worst case scenario: Paraguay beats Colombia (which is likely because for Colombia is a useless game), Venezuela beats Bolivia (likely as well) and Japan beats Equador, Venezuela go to the ko stages as best third, then depends by the scoring difference, Japan has -4, Argentina -2 so Japan should smashed badly Equador. Having said that the real problem here is beating Qatar :lol:

yes. but what i cant tell is as the #1 3rd place winner if that will mean brazil in the top bracket off the bat or in the bottom braket vs #1 from group c (chile/Uruguay). of course Argentina can be #2 in the group b with a win and paraguay loss/tie, that would put them vs venezuela in round 1 but brazil in the semis. as crappy as they have been they are not in terrible shape.

If they continue like the first 2 games it doesn't matter who they face, even going out vs Katar doesn't seem that unlikely tbh.

It's really a shame Argentina is so shit that Messi couldn't even win one Copa to this point despite them hosting the tournament almost every summer in recent years.

Yet another shot at it next year if he stays on. If they get a good coach they might have a chance as Brazil won't be as motivated if they win it this year as hosts. At least under Tata and Sabella they had a plan.

They're getting to the stage where it might be best to use Messi off the bench some games, especially in a tournament where he has to pace himself with the quick turnaround of games. He only plays in bursts anyway, so if you bring him on after an hour he could do more than he would starting anyway, as the whole gameplan of the opposition is about stopping him and triple marking him. Bring him on against tired defences.

He said few days ago it would be crazy if they go out, I wouldn't be surprised if he retires again in case of fiasco, soon or later I guess the patience ends.
