It's such a shame if he leaves for more money, especially so because it's a rare important spot that we otherwise looked to have secured for the foreseeable future.
That said, this coyness of his makes me want to vomit. It reminds me way too much of a certain P$G prick, and if this'll be his tactic every now and then, he can fuck right on off to Mou and win shit there.
He needs a much better contract, but not at the very top of the Barça hierarchy.

Best defender at this moment hand down. Would be an all-time great if he maintains this form and wins trophies. This season end will determine how much worth he is. CL and World cup.
That said, currently, with regards to his performance and time over the years, he should be getting around 6-7mil which is reasonable. If he really wants wages of the magnitude that is being reported, he should be showed the door. No one is kept here if they don't want to, plus he has a low/reasonalble buyout so that shuoldn't be a problem for other teams who wants to pay his demanded wages.
If the rumors to united are true, then let him leave, he is nothing other than a mercenary and hasn't done anything close to earning the same as the like of Pique, Iniesta.
He will be hard to replace but not impossible.

We have the league lock down are in the CdR final and unless Roma puts up a upset possibly a CL semifinal and he wants to leave this to go to a club that has no sense of direction as long as Pep is at City I have a hard time seeing them win the league and they got KO'ed by Sevilla, Bristol City in League One cup

There's NO way he's going to United. NO way. It's just the usual negotiation tactic, which we've seen from enough players now.
It's a bit insulting to the fans that this has become common place now. Can't remember if this tactic was so rampant back in the day maybe 10-15 years back or whether it's just the increased media attention on these things which makes it seem so prevalent now, with every tweet, like, etc. analyzed closely.
It leaves a bad taste in the mouth of the most important stakeholder, the fans. Unfortunately, it's a trend that almost always seems to work in favor of the player, so I guess it's going to be more and more common to see this happen.

Right - it is beyond me, why they don't start with the new arrivals?! Dembele 400M - why not 800 or 1000? He would have zero interest in keeping it low given his decision to move here during that mess he made in Dortmund. Let us increase them wildly to be sure.
For example: A 31 year old Busquets gets an offer to 5-triple his Barca-wage and play at another CL-club - is it unrealistic that he would consider the move? Is it unrealistic that clubs with the budget of countries can afford 200M? It is not unrealistic in 2 years, and BAM! the heart of barcas play could be ripped out over night - that is just unacceptable. I know that it is not plausible, but it shouldn't even be in the realm of possibility for other clubs. Real has out-smarted us in that regard for years, but it is time that we keep up.

Not defending Umtiti's 60m clause in the least, because we obviously messed up on that account, but I'm guessing these low clauses are mostly down to good, tough negotiation skills from the agents.

You're probably right, and as it turns out, the agents win. He will most likely get as much as 1M maybe 1,5M€ more a year than if he had a 200M clause, because of the realistic threat to go and play somewhere else.. Now that it is him, one of our top-performers and most stable players I don't mind him squeezing out a little extra for himself (I'm still convinced he will renew).
But as you said, he doesn't belong in the top of the hierarchy of this Barcateam yet, and therefore there is a limit.

Exactly. Give him 6.5 million per year. If he stays here for another 4 or so years, then he'll deserve to be near the top of the wage list.

Well, to be fair, Vermaelen was much more proven player than Umtiti when he joined us. And more importantly, he agreed to a higher release clause.

Umtiti's failed clearance is the catalyst for Russia's goal...
Edit: This guy's head is clearly not on the pitch. The ball from a corner ended at his feet and instead of crossing it again, he smashed it two meters wide from 5 meters out at an impossible angle.
