Posted this in the Barca transfers/rumors thread too but my thoughts on it:

I absolutely think we are going to sign him.

1) We will surely need a new starting striker ~2 years time when Suarez can't do it anymore.
2) Market is inflating at a ridiculous rate and who knows what the price of a top striker will be in 2-3 years time.

Paying 100m for him this summer (which is already kind of a bargain in this market) will definitely be worth it economically and sporting wise.

Think we will try to rotate him and Suarez next season and then maybe having him as our main striker in the second year and have Suarez as a sub (he will be 33 at that point).

When you put it like that, I like it. That's a good plan, although might seem unnecessary AT THE MOMENT, but who knows how long Suarez can keep going. The worst-case scenario, Suarez keeps playing well and we sell Griez for profit.

whats stopping Real Madrid from purchasing him, they need a new striker, and he fits the supportive 9 role well to feed ronaldo

It's Griezmann who's not interested with a Madrid move. He stayed for another season because he doesn't want Atletico to suffer with the transfer ban. He's not the type of player who will back stab his club.

There is a very good chance that this transfer happens but I agree with many here. We need a midfield general way more than Griezmann but he's a bargain in the current market... So a potential move for him cannot be ignored.

Says despite signing Coutinho we will still go for Griezmann this summer.

It also says that he would be our second best paid player. I really hope we have a good plan here. Though it's quite likely that Dembele, Coutinho and Griezmann would earn less together than what we paid to Neymar and his father.

Can we get a proper number 9, rather than all the ball playing number 10/cam types. We already have Messi, Coutinho, Iniesta. I like Griezmann, but IMO we should go for a proper number 9, a suarez type.

Icardi. release clause 110M
24 years. A killer. Before madrid snatch him...

Griezmann. Release clause 100M. 26 years. Can also play is CF if we want him to.
Pretty sure he will start scoring more, if he got the chances created in Barca rather than the few he gets in Atletico.

Icardi is levels below Griezmann, imo - he has never played a single CL-game - let that sink in!

Griezmann is a left footed support forward though. Not a striker and not right footed. And he's supposed to play on the left. His current form is also definitely worrying and he'll get a sky high wage as he'll have great bargaining power with the 100m release clause so will always have to play with that wage. I think he's a pretty good player but nothing extraordinary, yet he will be treated as such. That could make our team unbalanced IMO. With a goal scoring attacking midfielder/left forward like Coutinho, I think our need for more goal scorers are not as important as reinforcing the midfield.

He is a support forward because that is what he has played until now. He can be a sole CF (so alone you can be in attack with Messi on the field) for sure - and with much more support than he has tried before in Atletico. His current form is not worrying at all:5 goals + 4 assist (+2 CL goals) in his worst spell in years (in a defensive-minded team). He has proved himself in La Liga, the Euros (best player + France' only sure starter among ridiculous talent) and in CL - what more can you ask? He has the defensive workrate as well.

The money-thing is a good point: Wages seems to be a valid concern in Barca, but offloading a good amount of dead-weight should help.

Our midfield is stacked, tbh. Even with Gomes, Denis, Rafinha leaving we have Paulinho (maybe as sub), Roberto (earned a bigger role for sure), Rakitic, Alena and Iniesta. No urgent need to buy there - I actually agree with some of your earlier posts about scanning the market for the new Ceballos/Verratti rather than buying Thiago or similar.

You know that's never going to happen

That ain't happening. Problem is that his current wife Wanda Nara is Maxi's ex wife. Maxi Lopez is a very good friend of Messi and Leo was against Icardi playing for Argentina, you can only imagine his opinion if Icardi joins Barca. BTW wasn't he in Barca years ago as youngster? If I had to chose between Griezmann and Icardi, I'd take the frenchman anyday.

Probably bullshit rumours, but if true, Messi has fuck all to complain when Higuain misses sitters for fun in the world cup.

Bargain looking at current market.
I'm also pretty sure that France will have a great world cup so we could literally buy him for 100m and directly sell him for way more. I'd say his price in actual market is around 150m, and 160/170 after world cup.

Better to buy him now instead of searching for a world-class 9 in 2/3 years for 200m+...
The best player between Suarez and Griezmann will play... which means that Suarez will be on the bench and leave at the end of the following season. Happy ending ;)
