Not really. Valverde is preserving him for big matches because he provides better defensive capabilities than Roberto. If he realise opponents are always sitting so deep, then he subs in Roberto because the latter provides better offense.

I think its Valverde instruction for Semedo to be more defensive. He isnt quite trained in attack, understandably though.

However, its very true for players like Alena. Even Roberto moved up the ranks. Im just not sure why Alena isnt given that privillege despite showing his potential. He didnt even get any playing time. Thats what I hate abt it.

Sergi Roberto has been good at RB this season and of the two he has been better going forward than Semedo.

Valverde is just easing Semedo into the team without expecting him to play every game and probably rightly thinks at moment Roberto is the better of the two going forward.

Why doesn't Semedo do much in attack like he used to in Benfica? I thought he was a skiller like Alves

No he isn't, Roberto has been brilliant in RB too and he is providing play making ability from the RB position that we desperately need.
Both together are making RB position very good for us, Semedo will have the time to improve his attacking ability and understanding of the system,but until then he will get his fair share of rotations.

Probably didn't want to fuck up the attack and lose possession by putting in a poor cross, and ended up not doing much anyway.

Good he's benched every second game so he can grow in confidence.

He isnt getting forward all that much probably due to Alba taking up LW on other side most of the time.

Although when has been asked to go forward more in game vs Atletico etc he wasnt making much of an impact and Roberto was better.

Think Semedo is still settling in and over thinks it a bit in attack and doubts himself at times and plays it safe. Roberto doesnt as much but all that will come with Semedo surely. He is a great player and he and Roberto as RB options is a strong place to be in.

Because he isn't a midfielder? may be because the coach is rotating until he sees the perfect line up? May be it is irrelevant to Semdo/Roberto situation?
Never mind he isn't really benched for Gomes ,he has played more minutes of the two

Good game to test him going forward as well if Digne goes as more defensive full back on other side.

Denis LW and Semedo attacking RB would be decent to see.

He's played in the midfield this season. Don't see a long-term future for him in the midfield, but EV still played him there. It is relevant since Gomes was put in out there in our most important game so far ahead of someone who's actually been decent.

Gomes was better than usual against Atletico. He might be more physical, but usually ends up losing most of his duels and losing the ball based on last season. Could have easily played Paulinho if he wanted the physical factor. He actually makes use of it and is a threat in the box.
