CL | Quarter Final - 1st leg: Juventus - FC Barcelona 3-0

DonAK

The 3-4-3 didn't work against la coruna and was pretty exposed v valencia, so don't really see the difference i belive we should set up according to the opposition, and in this case mash needs to play cdm, we can't play gomes, feel sorry for bob but needs must

We played with Alba in the back three and lined up with Gomes, Denis and Arda. All three have largely been anonymous for us. Valencia usually step up their game against us, Real and Atletico, and we had far more chances to bury the game against them. Sure we didn't look the best against them in defence, but I'll put that more down to concentration than anything else.

When we've played with our best players in this system, we've done well and played significantly better. Cannot say the same about the 4-3-3.

You should play according to the opposition, but the 4-3-3 has failed against teams like Sevilla earlier in the season where Messi's brilliance won us the game, Villarreal and also against teams like Real Betis, Malaga at home and more. We create less chances, exert less control, and are even more exposed defensively in that system.

It's not even about the results, but how sterile we looked in the 4-3-3. Playing one-two's between the CBs and then hoofing the ball up or losing it in our own half.

We will agree to disagree, don't share the enthusiasm for 3-4-3- and don't think it has been the resounding success you claim it has, messi could play in maybe a 4-2-1-2 behind neymar and luis, just think juve will have a field day if they overload out wide. Also just don't fancy the likes of matthieu and gomed starting in turin.

433 just doesn't work anymore. Rewatch psg 4 -0 Barça. With the players available, the 433 is a disjointed team, with the right side not used, and Barça just can't create anything. On the other hand, the 343 worked very well vs psg at home, vs sevilla, and in most games. Last night, Lucho reverted to 433, and it was a nightmare again.

If we played 3-4-3 with gomes and denis together we would look bad still but yeah 3-4-3 is definitely the better option for us right now compared to 4-3-3.

I'm not a fan of the 3-4-3, and the 4-3-3 seems to automatically mean that we lose the midfield battle. We should have worked with other systems as well this season, but we didn't. So, it's more a matter of choosing between two flawed formations for our current team.

Squad announcement for trip to Turin

www.fcbarcelona.com - 09/04/2017 | 13:41

Luis Enrique is taking the whole first team squad, except the injured Rafinha, as well as Barça B's Carles Aleñá and Àlex Carbonell

The demanding fixture list means the squad has little time to rest following the defeat to Malaga. The team have turned their attention to the crucial first leg of the Champions League quarter final against Juventus.
The available first team players trained on Sunday on the Tito Vilanova pitch at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, together with Barça B’s Carles Aleñá and Àlex Carbonell. The players who started against Malaga took part in a recovery session.

At the end of the session, Luis Enrique announced the squad for the trip to Turin. He is taking all the available first team players, except for the injured Rafinha, including the suspended Sergio Busquets and the injured Arda and Aleix. Moreover, the manager has called up Aleñá and Carbonell.

The squad in full for the Juventus match is: Ter Stegen, Cillessen, Masip, Piqué, Rakitic, Sergio, Denis Suárez, Arda, Iniesta, Luis Suárez, Messi, Neymar Jr, Mascherano, Paco Alcácer, Jordi Alba, Digne, Sergi Roberto, André Gomes, Aleix Vidal, Umtiti, Mathieu, Aleñá (28) and Carbonell (30).

Playing with gomes and denis is playing with 2 men less. It won't matter the formation.

I'd even play Aleña ahead of those two right now.

True, both systems have pluses and minuses, what is does show that the summer recruitment was badly done, untiti and to a lesser degree digne apart.

Have to be honest about it...I thought this was a decent draw after the PSG match because I thought that would be a turning point in our season. But quite clearly it wasn't. Now looking at it, I think this will end bad for us.

Wouldn't be surprised at all if we put in another terrible first leg performance like we did against PSG.

It's still a decent draw. If you are saying our chances are less likely because we haven't improved the same applies against any other team. Only Leicester would be clearly more ideal.
