Samuel Umtiti

How reliable is he?
Here's my quote from a page back.

I trust Roger Saperas from Rac1 and Fernando Polo from MD a lot on this. Both are Very Reliable Journalists and don't post anything unless they are really sure of it.

I mean it's weird to see "Reliable" and MD in one Sentence but guys like Miguel Rico and Polo are very Reliable from them. Polo's original article a day ago talked about how the Board wasn't happy about the original rumor because they wanted to keep it under wraps, and are working on a deal and it was going well to bring him here. After Polo's article went up, L'equipe had Info we are going to have a Bid of 25 million accepted for him and it supported Polo's Information he got.

and today Roger Saperas, had gotten info himself that we are close to signing him. and obviously Polo himself got some info again today that He's pretty much coming to Barca. I noticed SPORT stopped with the Denials since this stuff came to light.

Ara.Cat article on us Chasing Umtiti.

According to the article we prioritize Umtiti and Lemos, for CB options this summer.

We should close the deal and perhaps even announce it after Bartomeu presents the numbers for the fiscal year in a couple of days.

This 1st July excuse is rubbish for many reasons.

The fiscal year ends at 30th June right but,

1. The signing and first payment will go through 1st July when the transfer market opens and the next fiscal year have begun

2. Putting the signing in the next year's books is standard procedure

Funny enough Fernando Polo said this yesterday.

I guess it could be sooner than July.

Sport is saying Enrique said "no" to signing Umtiti. He's reportedly not convinced by his game, and doesn't think Umtiti suits Barça. It's sport so take it with a pinch of salt, ofc. it wouldn't be a Barça signing without press drama.
Yeah I don't believe this at all. We already have several reliable sources saying Umtiti, is likely going to be a Barcelona player and if Lucho said no then why are we pressing hard for him?

This seems like SPORT is doing damage control.

It'd be funny if true, though. Just imagine that. Maybe he said that about Baily, as the rumors are Robert went for him, then backed down.

We will announce the deal in the coming days, before France's Euro 16 opener on Friday.

I mean with sources like Ara,rac1,Fernando Polo(MD) and even l'equipe Reporting the news I just seriously doubt SPORT's claims.

The only instance I could think of Lucho turning down a target the Board wanted was Luiz, and that deal was done before he was hired I believe. Cat radio also posted some news that Robert and Lucho had serious Discussions in regards to the summer window several weeks back after the season ended. Lucho is likely well aware of Umtiti and if he didn't want him or see him as an option we would never have gone for him.

Sport several days ago said we seen him as one of our options but not a priority and denied we were in negotiations to get him. but strangely got quiet once more rumors started coming out. and today posted an article that "Lucho doesn't want him and the transfer lost momentum". Would surprise me if it was someone else they were truly referring like you said possibly "Baily" but substituted in Umtiti instead.

It's possible the deal can go south but with so much fire and smoke to it I just can't see Lucho saying no at this point.

How does he fare aerially in comparison to his peers? I haveta say I'm bit underwhelmed by his stature. I can't tell if Barca actively pursue small defenders, or it's all just a coincidence. Gabi Milito, Puyol, Márquez, (Masch)...Even this Lemos kid is mere 6ft. Now I'm not saying height alone determines aerial ability (as we have seen with the likes of Puyol, T.Silva, Verma and so on), but I can't help but notice this particularity with our CB pursuits. We got Mathieu, but he's not long term. It's like Piqué will forever have to make do with partners of smaller stature (at every level). :p
