I have loved football as long as I can remember and was taken to my first game as a small kid in the late 70's to see Liverpool. That is my team and I have been to see them play more times than I could even count LOL. I am from a small town in England called Matlock, so that is my local team, they are semi professional. My 3rd team is the mighty Barca! Can you love a team because of a stadium. I think that's what started it for me, seeing the awe inspiring Camp Nou on TV caught my attention and that moved onto who plays there. I visited Barcelona for the first time in Sept 99 and got to see Barca play against Espanyol. It was a dream come true and I have been back in 03, Vs Real Betis and just weeks ago to see the Valencia and PSG games. Fell in love with the city straight away back in 1999 and it is my favourite European destination. Really hope from now on to get to a game every season :)

Very easy to answer this question. A more interesting one would be: "Why are there so many Barca-haters out there?"

For me, it must've been simply the way of playing, when i started watching football, the allure of tiki-taka in the making. And in terms of superstars, my first Barca player to really adore was Rivaldo, i was 6 or 7 at the time. So that makes me a Cule since 1999, i guess. Still vividly remembering my 1st real celebration as a Cule a couple years later, him (Rivaldo) scoring that awesome hattrick vs. Valencia, topping the night and hattrick off with that amazing bicycle kick to win us a spot in the Champions League. Only a spot in the qualification round of CL, to be clear! And look how far i and we've become, getting ready to celebrate my and our 4th CL trophy as a Cule (with 7 La Liga's trophies also in the bag) now 16 years later. Amazing story.:lucho:

I became a fan in 2008. One of my best friends is a football nut, and a RM fan. At that time my exposure came mostly from FIFA, and the first team I played with was Chelsea.

My friend turned me onto Ronaldinho, greatest player in the world at that time, and Henry, for his sublime finishing. And I also found out about this kid named Messi, who is very close to my own age, when Cristiano won the Balon d'Or that year (I believe it was CR, Messi, F. Torres). And I watched some videos of Messi, then found out about Eto'o, then started following Barcelona. I thought the club colors were the best out of all the clubs in the world, and thought that the playstyle (attacking, possession) is aesthetically more pleasing than what any other team were doing.

So, I became a fan of Barcelona. My reasons were largely down to liking the players of the team, and the aesthetic value they represented. As I found out more about Barcelona's history, its philosophies, and essence of being, I became even more of a fan. Those other great players - Xavi, Iniesta, Yaya Toure, Abidal, Dani Alves, they quickly became some of my favorites as well.

It was something that was necessary in this world (because it happened). So, you can say something like my destiny.

Always playing with the same philosophy, the Barça 'brand' of football.

But of course, as with I guess anyone, it's one or more players putting that 'brand' into action, that makes you a follower & eventually a fan.

For me it were these guys : Guardiola, L. Enrique, Stoichkov, Romario, Koeman, Laudrup

Born and bred in Scotland, support Celtic as my first team. Grew up watching Barcelona on the telly, eventually having my first holiday in Catalonia about 15 years ago. Fell in love with Catalonia and the club from there. Over the past few years as I've gotten older, traveled more, seen more of Barcelona (the city) it all just falls in to place.
The past 10 years or so has seen my two supported clubs play each other a few times, each time the bond between both clubs and my bond for each grew.

Plus Messi is a bloody genius.

Very easy to answer this question. A more interesting one would be: "Why are there so many Barca-haters out there?"

Due to being the most succesfull club of the last 10 years, also due to the unfair Uefalona branding we got due to the Chelsea game in 09 and the media attention during the classico's with Mourinho labeling us as divers and cheats ignoring their harsh fouls and diving/cheating.
Also people hate the compliments Barca received, constantly hearing best footballer ever, amazing, perfect etc. pisses people off.
Its the same reason why some hate Messi.

Then of course there is also hatred for a different reason: Madrid/Ronaldo fanboys, Chelsea fanboys who are still butthurt, united(cr7) fans due to lost finals, arsenal fans due to the schooling, French people due to psg trashings, Italian fans due to Milan getting beat up yearly and supporting Juve currently, Portugese due to Ronaldo, Bayern fans due to our recent revenge. Also a lot of people support Juve currently due to the underdog story and them wanting Pirlo and Buffon to lift it.
But all in all its the success of the last decade along with the applause Barca got for their play that attracts most hate one way or the other.

Fuck em though, haters are secret admirors:p

“I’ve never been a Barcelona supporter. . . .or a glory hunter”
It is a very true statement believe it or not. It is only recently though that I have been really processing the elements of that truth that I am indeed not a Barcelona Supporter.
It is my actions that show this. My actions have never supported the ‘Barcelona Football team’ brand or the Spanish Football team or the Catalunya National Football Team.
My actions have Supported >> The Johan Cruyff football philosophy of ‘Pass and move’ displayed mostly by FC Barcelona and Spain. This is due to the entertainment I have gotten out of the Philosophy. I have also been entertained by a few people that have melted my heart. Ronaldinho, Michael Laudrup, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Paul Scholes, David Silva, Kaka, Neymar, Barca coach Pep Guardiola, Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque, Manchester United Coach Alex Ferguson and Bayern Munich coach Jupps Heynckes.
I have never been a glory hunter. The glory that those people mean are ‘the winning of the game’
It could be 1-0 or it could be 7-0 or it could be 5-4 etc.

Johan Cruyff once quoted >> “Quality without results is pointless. Results without quality is boring.”

Lets look at the first bit of this quote and keep it simple >> “Quality without results is pointless”.
The point needs to be there. The point is not actually the split second of the ball going across the line more than the opposition so that the game can be won. The point is actually the results of what happens to get the ball to the split second before it goes over the line. The word ‘quality’ is also in there in the sentence. The word ‘without’ is also there in the sentence. Quality is entertaining yes. . . but to a football fan it will be pointless ‘without’ getting the ball to the split second before it crosses the line.
Lets look at the second part of the quote. >> “Results without quality is boring.”
Getting the ball to the split second before it crosses the goal line is the result. I don’t watch football for the goals. That is a very true statement. I watch football for the results before it gets to the final millimetre the ball has to travel in order for goals to be scored that will win the game. Xavi, Ronaldinho, Neymar, Iniesta and Busquets and the philosophy of football that has been demonstrated by Barcelona has been the quality that I have enjoyed. It has nothing to do with the moment the ball crosses the goal line. It has nothing to do with the Barcelona brand.

The truth is I am a football supporter. I support quality football. Both as individual players and as a collective style of football. I have football shirts of Michael Laudrup, Ronaldinho, Xavi and Andres Iniesta. They just happen to be representing the brand of Barcelona.
I will still want Barcelona to win game but that is a watered-down desire and unrelated to what I am talking about today. Barcelona has never been assigned as my team from the beginning. Not like the Highlanders and Otago Rugby Teams, not like my home football region of Southern United or the All Blacks Rugby team.

Time was 2009... It started in my college....All my friends supported different clubs - chelsea, united, arsenal, madrid, liverpool, barcelona etc. So I used to watch nearly every match of every club...

Domination : No other team dominated the opposition the way Barca did.. Half of the battle was won psychologically. Those days, Barca was literally considered unbeatable.
I remember, when the draw was out for Champions League semi-final in 2012. Chelsea got Barcelona as opponent. My Chelsea supporter fans literally gave up the hope. But, when Chelsea won the tie, it was like the biggest upset of the year...

Style of Play : Coincidentally, Barca was at the peak of their powers at that time and it was just the beginning of their golden age..
They played beautifully with accurate passes., visionistic play and then goals. It was not just possession. It seemed like every pass had a purpose behind it.There was no mindless passing. The chemistry between Puyol, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta and then the lead vocalist Messi was amazing... It was truly an opera at its best...

Messi factor : It would be a lie if I say that I am all rational fan with no role of Messi for my Barcelona love. The Humble, Balanced, Skillful, Unselfish person just reminded me of Sachin in cricket. I like him not only as a footballer but also as a person. The Magic of Messi in the subsequent years made my loyality for the club even stronger.
Transfer Policy : Another thing that I liked about the club was the concept of La Masia.. It helped to create perfect balance in the team... There were the youth(like pedro) who learned from the seniors... There were no ego issues in the dressing room.
History : When ever I read the history of the club, it truly makes me believe that Barca is more than a club.
