Xabi Alonso

No doubt he has talent, but next season will likely not be at this level, recreating success is the most difficult part of football.

Right now, if feels like Xabi is save-scumming in football manager or something.

Xabi can retain Bundesliga next season. The core of this year squad is staying

Bayern are still looking for a coach, and their squad has holes

I don't think anyone expects a repeat of this season next season.

But what he has achieved from last season to this season is incredible.

They are winning, but winning well. It's not like Xavi at the same stage where we won the league but scraped victories and played poorly.

For those who defend Xavi, this is what we hoped with him.

It is not that the pieces Xavi had at the beginning of season were incredible either. Many thought they would struggle more this season having sold Diaby.

Instead they recruited astutely and maximized the in house quality.

Oh, and also decided that Europa League wasn't beneath them.

On a tangent, if Leverkusen end up winning it, they will replace us in Pot 1 of the CL

He still needs to prove that he's capable to coach an elite team. The pressure to win and to lead superstars is something else entirely at Real than in Leverkusen. There were many coaches who felt comfortable coaching a smaller team and failed when they stepped up a tier. We also had with Valverde and Setien 2 such coaches. They were and are good for the b-tier teams, but couldn't lead our dressing room.
Big players have big egos. Also if you don't win 2 games in a row in Madrid, the media starts to harrass you about a crisis and how long until you're fired.

let's wait and see. He could be another great coach overall of course, but he could also be just a good coach for b-tier teams like so many before him.

Last manager to have as explosive/more explosive a start to their managerial career is...Pep Guardiola. And talent wise, Pep had a team of GOATs at his disposal (and correspondingly achieved much bigger trophies - European treble).

Very intrigued to see how he evolves.

I wonder how open Cules will be having him as our Coach?
Would take him in a heartbeat. He is a great coach, that is the most important thing, doesn't matter where he played.

He was also a great player, don't think he will have problems managing a big team with big egos.

Ya true. As much as he was an absolute cunt while playing for Madrid, he was a Class player and is a class manager right now.
Our club needs a coach with his mentality and game.
Pity it's not going to happen as the club is run by stupid morons and the Socios are just as deluded as ManU fans.

You don't turn down the best upcoming manager in world football just because he played for your rival. This is a business.

But of course, if you are Madrid (or Liverpool or Bayern), you take advantage of that link to get a foot in to sign him yourself.

Plus I remember the days when all the Sports papers spoke about was Xabi-Xavi for years. It's on us that we didn't sign him and preferred Hleb, Keita in 2009.

I am fine with him not joining us as it meant we got to see Busi. If it's between him and Busi, I think 99% of us will choose Busi.
