Frequency isnt at all relevant to this award, its the single "best" goal, which is mostly up the viewer, imo. Nonetheless, players like James and Zlatan for example scores/scored great goals fairly regulary as well.

Hames is a new entrant. I'll give you Zlatan tho. Frequency is relevant to nominations. And nominations are listed by the FIFA committee, who have been very ambiguous with their choices in regards to messi's. Public only vote from the list.

How is frequency relevant in a single goal-contest? Heck, virtually anyone could have a once in a lifetime moment to grab such an award.

The thing with these best goals of the season they tend to give it to the people who executed great finish. Long range goals and incredible volleys these win you the awards. So messi doesn't have much chance to win or even get nominated. He can dribble 11 players before scoring but finish is all that matters at least in FIFA mind.

Ajax is out... Came back after 0-2 to 2-2 at home but then Rapid Wien scored again and after first leg's 2-2 draw, they are out.

Looking forward to playoff games :)

Aside from fist half in first leg, when Rapid was tactically misadjusted, Ajax were clearly inferior.
Especially yesterday night they were not able to create anyhting.
Only one decent chance, excellently converted with a volley. The equalizer for Ajax was a blatant mistake of the referee as it resulted after a clear foul on the goalie of Rapid.
Rapid did not create many chances either, only 4 actually. But three of which were absolute high class and they converted all three of them thanks to tactically inferior Ajax defence.

So if Ajax will not fire that de Boer clown now nothing can help them.

de Boer should step down himself, Ajax have been going down for couple of seasons already now...

Some interesting games today, would like to watch Malmo - Salzburg or Shaktar - Fenerbache. Maybe the latter proves to be more interesting because of the 1st leg score (0-0).

CSKA Moscow fighting back from behind to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 2-3 victory in Prague.

Apoel eliminated the Danish champions despite playing with 10 for almost 70mns.

Astana beat Finnish champions (HJK) despite going 0-2 behind, and having to play the final 30 minutes or so with 10 men.

But up until now, Rapid Vienna have stolen the show by eliminating Ajax.
