Pep bought Cesc and tried to move towards a 3-4-3 when there would have been game time for both but it didnt work properly and he went back to 433 and there was never going to be enough minutes for all of them the following season.

Thiago played a lot though and was not under appreciated. He was seen as being future behind Xavi but didnt want to wait which is fair enough.
