Philippe Coutinho

James Rodriguez is on a similar salary and Real Madrid will be getting 25m gbp from Everton for him. One year left on his contract too.

There will be a buyer for Coutinho eventually as both have had similar career paths, but it just won't be for the amount that we hope for. I'd probably say that Coutinho is a slightly better player and more proven in club football.

I don't have any idea where Coutinho will fit in, but if Koeman counts on him then one more season as part of the squad is not a problem. It gives more depth at worst and if he does not perfect then we can sell next year in the 20m-40m wage and free up 11m or so on the salary.

Of course if we could use him in a swap with option to buy then that would also be interested. Ndombele with Spurs for example (although he has a very very high salary), or someone from a Serie A team like AC Milan, Inter Milan.

So yeah, not high on my list of worries right now, now that the squad has been trimmed of Vidal, Rakitic, Suarez.

i can't see any club buying him

think he'll stay as a very expensive bench option

I think it's the only option. You can't just toss him aside. He played minutes in the CL final, he's not a Douglas. If there aren't good offers to sell him, then he should stay and fight for his place under a new manager who is probably going to give anyone a fair shot.

One of the main rotation players at Bayern is good enough to at least be that if not start for the side that lost 2-8 to them.

With Suarez moving out, I can only imagine a formation with Messi and Griezmann foward and Coutinho behind as a CAM.

Messi is 33, moving him closer to the opponent's goal will make him more dangerous as a clinical finisher and also less worry about defending.

Coutinho would play in his natural position and be unpredictable again, which was his most enjoyable feature in liverpool.

Coutinho was never unpredictable. He has one move. He is like Robben but without the speed and quality.

With or without Messi, this guy should be sold.

Coutinho at his best at Liverpool had much more than one move.

Could dribble, had great range of passing, could pass and could finish.

The issue with him seems to be that he needs a bit of chaos on the pitch to react to and be given freedom to do it.... for example his dribbling is reactionary when in areas that disrupt defences but give him ball out wide and ask him to run at a full back and too often will be pointless.

Cant see how he fits in a side with Messi if want to get any of that from him.

Issue with selling him is there is unlikely to be a market as City/Liverpool are stacked and other EPL teams seem to be buying younger to be in prime position when those teams decline.

Koeman had called Coutinho right after the Champions League Final - he was told by Koeman that he was very much in his plans and wanted him to return. His agent has confirmed to @talkSPORT

So we will pay Liverpool another 20 mil, with Cou again contributing absolutely nothing. What an idiotic plan to bring him back. He must be sold while he is worth something, in a couple of years most clubs will realize that he worthless is like Arda.

Barca have 5m more to pay not 20m.

Much of the same issues that Hazard has at Madrid imo.

Showing more fight after Bayern whipped him into shape than he did playing for us

Griezmann and Coutinho got into an altercation after today's training session. Coutinho allegedly confronted him about the no. 7 shirt saying he doesn't deserve it and to show him his champions league winners medal. Griezmann had to be held back by Lenglet and Messi. [ESPN]
