Ousmane Dembélé

I mean what should we do? Our options are:

1.) sell him next summer with just a year left on his contract for whatever we can get. If he stays fit for a whole season then maybe we can hope for around 50-60m. But then a big question is how much of that money could actually be re-invested in the team and can we really get a much better option than a healthy Dembele?

2.) don't do anything and let him play out his contract. If he somehow stays fit and turns into an important player for us we then risk losing him for nothing as in 13,5 months he can start to freely negotiate with other teams. With our luck he'd probably go to Bayern, never get injured again and turn into a new Gnabry for them.

3.) add a year or two to his contract (while he'd also need to take a big pay cut like other players whose contracts were extended did) and give us more flexibility. He can stay here as a part of the team on lower wages or we could still sell him for a good money if he stays relatively healthy and the club will decide we don't want him anymore because we'll find a better/more reliable player. Another thing to consider is he'd be also easier to sell if he'd be on lower wages more teams could afford to match.

We should extend him no doubt, but not right now. Just wait until later in the season to see if he's really gotten over his injuries.

Sure, I didn't mean we should extend him now.

Ramon Planes (he's still employed by the club to do something even if he doesn't have any real power and will be gone in a few months) can still negotiate with Dembele's agent and if they agree to extension this could be approved or rejected by a new board.

- renew him for 4 years

- renew him but lower his salary .

- make him health bonuses ( if he manages to stay healthy the whole season , except 1 -2 week long injuries , he gets 3 milion bonus / season )

We desperately need fast players , if we sell him ( which we will do for peanuts of course ) and he manages to stay healthy , we'll be fucking losers . His speed and x factor is needed in our team.

X factor??? What is that?

I can't imagine Dembele agreeing to a paycut, the threat of a free transfer and he could earn a lot as a free agent.

Something in his football that makes him stand out from other players.

It's all just simple skill moves and acceleration. But not all pacy wingers can create goals like that, the majority of them can't. Defenses are completely secure because their defensive shape is stable, they have players behind the ball, and the ball's near the midfield...you rarely expect a dangerous play to immediately come from those positions unless you're a Messi, Neymar, Hazard, and so on. Dembele, although not on the level of the players I mentioned, has that characteristic; to create something out of nothing. It's a mental/instinctive one despite the efforts of some posters here trying to label him as a pace merchant.

PAIN

🗣️ ? Javier Bordas (former Bar?a sporting director): "Mbappe was very eager to move to Barcelona after Neymar left."

Easy in hindsight. But the fact is Dembele was cheaper and more of a direct replacement for Neymar. On paper at that time Dembele seemed to complete Suarez and Messi better than Mbappe would have.

Eriksen highly rated in that thread

4-5 years ago, Eriksen was a flavor of a decade.
He was the best midfielder (or don't take it literally, among top 2-3 midfielders in the world) on our forum for a few years.

Also, in hindsight, it's funny to look at the past when people used to say: if we don't buy Pogba, we are screwed. That guy will dominate the world for the next 10 years. There isn't any other midfielder of his age who is even close to him.
