Martin Montoya

We need a RB/LB like Abidal or J. Mathieu. Someone who is solid on defense. We have Adriano Alba Alves, it's enough. We need some defence skills.

You have to think that Alves is 30 and he will be sold soon (1 season?) so we need a good RB for the starting XI.

Montoya would be a fantastic signing.

Not only would he be Johnson's eventual replacement at right back but he can easily cover on the left too. I really hope it happens.

No one really knew or counted on Pedro or Busquets before their promotion apart from Pep, so quality is a subjective issue...As others have mentioned, we were repeatedly reminded of how inadequate Bartra was at CB yet now there's increased clammoring for him to start - despite first appearing with the first team 3 years ago

Similar with Bojan who was hyped to the heavens and had repeated opportunities to show his quality

But there is a difference in quality between... say... Busquets circa '08 and the catera players from today. In the end, it's not about forcing cantera players in the first team if they are not good enough, it's about players who have what it takes or don't. Simple as that. I choose to think that, if we don't promote new, young players atm, it's because they are not ready. Barcelona cannot afford experiments, like taking a so-so player from the B group and make him better by playing him in the first team. No, IMO you take an already amazing and accomplished youngster and shape him into a world class player. We're not Arsenal, we don't raise players in the first team at the expense of trophies.

agree, that´s why Thiago had to be sold, not good enough

The glory glory Pep days. If he stayed we would have bought the necessary centerback everyone is longing for, kept Abidal and groomed Bartra. Because having 6 centerbacks would be easy to manage. In midfield we'd have Thiago, Sergi Roberto, Rafinha, Xavi, Iniesta and Fabegas being content fighting for 2 spots. Upfront on the wings we'd have Deulofeu, Tello, Cuenca, Pedro, Alexis and Neymar. You can never have enough wingers. Throw Sanabria in there as well - just to make sure. All it would require is a 35 man squad. Because under Pep we'd promote everyone and lose 0 talents...

...and they lived happily ever after.

The end.

The really ridiculous thing about this is that the talks appear to be about a move in January. If Alves was to get injured then we would only have Adriano for cover at right back and he is constantly getting injured. We had to play Puyol there against Ajax and we all saw how well that went. Letting him go at the end of the season would be a poor decision as I really do think he is a more than adequate replacement for Dani. Letting him go in the winter though would be downright lunacy. The only reason for it would be to make a bit of money off him instead of letting him go for free in the summer and I have no doubt that Rossel prefers this to the latter option, even if it means weakening the squad for the rest of the season.

You're just delusional then...Name one player that has been promoted or featured with the 1st team in the last couple of seasons...In Pep's time, there was at least one every season

In contrast, how many cantera players who were counted on left the club during Pep's time?...And now?

You should learn about facts before crying about glory past. There is only one player who made it to the top level being promoted by Pep. His name is Busquets.
Last two seasons Barcelona B players, who got promoted are
Bartra
Muniesa
Montoya
Tello
Roberto
Olazabal
Roberto
Deulofeu
Rafinha

How many else you need? That's already more than Pep did in 4 years.

Wrong

Rafinha & Deulofeu aren't even on the first team, they are loaned players

Busquets, Pedro & Victor Sanchez were youth promotions for the 08-09 season...Jeffren was promoted for 09-10 while Bartra, Dos Santos, Fontas, Thiago & 5 other B teamers were used during the season by Pep...14 B teamers used the following season for 10-11 including Montoya, Deulofeu, Olazabal & Roberto...2011-2012, Pep's last season saw Thiago promoted along with Cuenca & Fontas...13 B teamers used that season including Rafinha, Bartra and Tello

Tito's campaign saw the official promotion of Tello, Montoya, Dos Santos & Bartra - all players that played with the first team under Guardiola before promotion...How many new youth players debuted last season?...None...This season under Tata, two players promoted, Olazabal & Roberto - both to have first been given a chance by Pep...Oier is a nonfactor while Roberto is a consequence of Thiago's exit otherwise he too would've been loaned out...and still might be this January...Adama & Patric are the first youth teamers to get their debuts with the first team since Pep's departure

Deulofeu and Rafinha are under first team contract, does it mean they are promoted? . Pedro and Sanchez were promoted by Rijkaard. Jeffren, Sanchez, Bojan, Dos Santos, Fontas never got enough playing time under Pep. The only players who got consistent playing time are Busi and Pedro, and then Pep benched Pedro for entire season and destroyed him. The only thing left from Pep is Busi, no matter how much canteta he promoted. It's not about debuting or not, sure it didn't help Montoya or Roberto.

Pep brought in the youth, not Tito...The departures that have been occurring in the past season are inextricably linked to that void in philosophy of integrating the youth...The cantera players, including ones who are now in the first team, have repeatedly pointed to Pep giving youth team players belief they could play with the 1st team

Not surprisingly, one of those cantera players went right to Pep this past offseason...The re-emphasis on the cantera is not credited to anyone but Pep and any changes in that can only be linked to his absence...As I said before, no one knew who Pedro (Apart from a debut from Rijkaard, not a promotion) or Busquets were before Pep

As for using other players and counting on them, clearly you've decided to ignore Jeffren, Tello & Cuenca

How about the departures of Jeffren, Victor Sanchez, Fontas, Gai Assulin, Krkic? All these players rotted under Pep, hell Krkic got booted openly by Pep from the team. No matter how many canteranos were under Pep, his only contribution is still Busquets. Can you imagine only one canterano made it to the starting squad in 4 Pep years, 4 years are equal to 4 generations of La Masia players being graduated.

After Pep only canterano left due to lacking of playing time was Thiago, right?

Jeffren was injury prone, Victor Sanchez, Krkic & Fontas were simply not good enough

Gai Assulin?...Only his agent thought he was something special

All the players that have been promoted from the youth team in the last 5 years are all players that got their chance from Pep, period...No one else gave them a shot...As I said, were you or anyone to ask any youth player who is responsible for the re-emphasis of the cantera and who gave them the belief that they could get a 1st team shot the answer would unquestionably come back to Guardiola

Thiago left after Tito regressed his playing time...Same things happened with Tello, Bartra & Montoya who all were linked away from the club
