Lionel Messi - v7

Barca should not be trying to convince him to stay they should lay out their plans and let him decide.

That includes a big wage decrease if he wants to stay past 34.

If that is not what he wants and sees a better future elsewhere let him leave next summer if no big fee this summer.

If he does leave it would be an end of an era, but I would be excited to finally see what would happen if another team has him.

Fuck it.

Let him leave.

He protected Valverde, protected his declining friends and failed to show leadership on multiple occasions on and off the pitch in relation to the board.

Weak ass.

True.
He really lacks leadership skills. He also stood by Shitverde. It was clear things were slack under Shitverde. No hard work and alot of days off. Bayern players were complaining about the lack of intensity under Ancelotti and were doing personal sessions. Our fucking weak ass amigos were enjoying life under Shitverde.
Messi said NOTHING!
In the aftermath of this defeat he didn't man up and face the press. Wonderful natural talent but lacks the ability to lift the team when the going gets hard.
For his sake and ours I hope he leaves. He needs a change and we need to move on.
I'm really unhappy about the fact that he always goes underground after these heavy defeats. He can rightly blame the board but the amigos culture has flourished under his watch as captain.

Totally the right way to approach things but we all know we need have to have a functional board for that to even remotely be a possibility.

You all should learn to live with the prospect that he would be leaving sooner or later. Brilliant footballer, shiet captain material. It is high time for a new era with no old guards

True.
The golden era is ending. Messi is the leading man together with xavi, iniesta, suarez, neymar, pique, busquets, alves, alba, fabregas, villa, henry, etoo, dinho, puyol, etc.
It's a span of 15 years more or less.
It could be a dry, vacant 3-5 years with much lesser trophies, but hopefully not too long for a new generation of golden players. We'd lucky if there's another set of messi-xavi-iniesta in the next 50 years, though.

Lionel Messi is the GOAT and always will be, but no matter how good someone is it eventually reaches a stage where they can't give the same performances they once did. He's past his best. Barcelona need to change in order to become close to as good as they were a few years ago. Unfortunately a massive factor was Messi majority of the time, he was the centre point. Now he's still the centre point but not the phenom he once was, he's simply not the most dangerous player in Europe anymore. So if he isn't that then how are Barcelona gonna be the most dangerous team in Europe with him as the centre point? They simply can't. They need to start from scratch and build a new team with mostly young players that are eager to win. Stop only buying expensive well known players. That's one of the main reasons we've become quite a vulnerable and timid team right now. Go back to square one, slowly evolve to a dangerous squad again. Peace ✌️

Some pretty strong words there but you hit the nail on the head. Some years ago it would have been unthinkable to even see Messi in this way but the fortunes of the club have taken a drastic turn for the worse and he is one of the culprits.

The time has come for us to hit a hard reset and if that means he leaves then so be it. At the very least though if he stays most of the other seniors should leave. So in essence we would have a much younger energetic team doing all the running and pressing for him.

He should leave.

There really isn't much of a debate here:

a) Barca starts a 2-3 year rebuild around a 33 year old Messi. ---> Short term

or

b) Barca starts a 2-3 year rebuild with a focus on a new set of key players like De Jong ---> Long term

It's unfortunate that Barca hit rock bottom when Messi was 33, but it is the situation we are in now and we need to focus elsewhere. H'es on astronomical wages and it doesn't make sense for this to continue financially or sporting wise.

Would be really good too for his legacy if he can manage to win an EPL or Serie A with City or Inter. Inter would be a great fit, would be a force in the CL and renew the domestic Messi vs CR7 rivalry. Also Serie A is a lot less physical than La Liga nowadays.

I don't think the current version of Messi would do that well at Inter. Maybe he'd go there for financial reasons, but his time challenging for major individual or collective honors would almost certainly be over.

Inter would be a very difficult challenge.

The only reasonable options I see are;

1. Go to Man City - nothing is guaranteed but you'll have the highest chance of winning EPL & UCL title in the next 3 years.

2. Stay here but fully accept your chances of winning the UCL again is very slim. Be at peace with that and fully commit to the new rebuilding process.

It seems Messi would be happy with the 2nd option if there was no politics involved.
