"He concludes that if Messi's contract states June 30, Messi has a weak case. If it stipulates "end of the season", then Messi's case is strong."

I honestly believe Bartomeu sacking all those lawyers isn't a coincidence. I really think they fucked up on Messi's contract.

La Masia
Barcelona president Bartomeu and Messi's father to meet on Wednesday @tancredipalmeri

There will be a meeting between Jorge Messi and Bartomeu in the coming days. Jorge Messi wants to talk about Lionel's exit from the club in a friendly matter while Bartomeu wants to talk about a renewal. If Messi doesn't renew, he can stay until a new president is elected [md]

Advising Messi to leave for free is enough to get the lawyers sacked regardless if they fucked up Messi's contract.

Ok this is a journal i respect a lot (no bias) were maybe they asked their legal department to have a look:

Journal L'?quipe :

According to our information, #Messi would be free to leave the #Bar?a since the end of the 2019-2020 season & therefore to engage with another club without paying its release clause

Also not the contract was a 3+1 not a 4 years one

Which goes along what this lawyer who witnessed a similar case in July is saying : https://www.reddit.com/r/Barca/comm...384c89d6e9&utm_source=embedly&utm_term=ije5is

whatever happens, NEVER should a player be allowed to leave a club in this manner ever again no matter how big a player becomes. Iniesta and Xavi went with grace, Messi is making himself look a twat. lessons have to be learned and mistakes should not be repeated in the future

I've lost interest in this saga, its such a sad way to end whats already been a shit season. I feel both parties could of went about this in a more respectful manner; if Messi leaves on a free, part of his image will be tarnished to me, as a fan, but I will wish him the best for what hes given us in his time here. It'll be interesting to see how he does in the PL

It's FIFA rules not the club decision at the end of the day if the player does not renew his contracts you have no power over him and you will certainly NOT wait the last year for him to walk free.

You either renew with him or sell him.

It seems likely Messi will get the provisinal transfer pass from FIFA, join Man City, go in a legal battle against Barcelona, lose the case and he won't pay the 700m clause but a fee much lower decided by the judges.

Bartomeu kept giving Messi all the leverage in his contracts, thinking Messi's love for Barcelona would be deterrent enough for him not to fleece Barca. Somewhere in the last 1-1.5 years, Messi's attitude towards the club has turned bitter, for whatever reasons.

This is the reason for the mess. I'm also suspecting that some of the GOAT/personal glory chatter has gotten to Messi's head. Xavi and Iniesta had a firm legacy and that's why they bowed out more gracefully.
