 State of football is this guy goes for over 100m.

Before the oil clubs ruined the game this guy is legit 18-20m signing .

The biggest problem, Covid didn't matter to them at all. Everyone else is Covid-ridden. Makes a very unfair environment, but oh well.

COVID would have mattered to them if the FFP is still in place. But we can't really complain here, since we benefit from the relaxation/demise of the FFP.

When you look at the facts, the top ten most expensive signings in the EPL, only 2 were by an oil club. That oil club did not even make the top two places.

10. Ruben Dias to Man City ?68m
9. Angel Di Maria to Man United ?75m
8. Kepa to Chelsea ?80m
7. Nicolas Pepe to Arsenal ?80m
6. Kai Havertz to Chelsea ?80m
5. Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool ?84.65m
4. Romelu Lukaku to Man United ?84.7m
3. Kevin De Bruyne to Man City ?84.7m
2. Harry Maguire to Man United ?87m
1.Paul Pogba to Man United ?105m

Seems like people forgot about Chelski. It was the original City and PSG (nowadays oil clubs), spending as Roman wanted until he got the CL win. Looks like winning a CL is enough to lose the oil club tag.

In regards of City, it is the density of 50-60 millions players they bought. They won't top the chart but in the top 10 most expensive defenders, they have Stones, Mendy, Laporte, Cancelo and Dias.

Yea, I guess PSG did it more distastefully than others with their 400m on 2 players in 2017. And blew up the market so that every club could add 40-50m on what the player was really worth. Hell, if Neymar went for 222m. anything is possible.

Yes they have those defenders, but they spent their own money, not in debt and the money stayed in football. Today, those who criticise the oil clubs are hoping that players they purchased for exorbitant figures, an oil club might buy them.

Bad take when you see the 10 most expensive deals in PL he quoted :

Angel Di Maria to MU, Romelu Lukaku, De Bruyne and Pobga (number 1) happened before Neybapp?.

City were also breaking records for defenders way before Neybapp?. Don't forget Mangala.

And despite having happened decades ago, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale or even Zidane would be in that chart.

I have already explained my viewpoint. From the beginning, football was won thanks to money (Madrid buying Kopa, first french player leaving the country like that and considered a traitor at the time). After time pass and success is acquired, fans will romanticize the club with their "history", "legacy" or whatever and deny the same to the new players. Chelsea were hated at the time and nowadays, everyone forget about them and focus on City and PSG because they are the new kids on the block.

Who is hating on Berlusconi Milan ? No one, it is considered a great club. You just need to actually win the trophies to be accepted. So far, PSG and City have failed to do that.

How is it a bad take? Neymar's signing was scandalous, and completely shattered the market.

Anything before that was bordering 80-100m for a long time. Since Zidane.
