Look I know he's an all round good guy but seriously what does he give us ??
Whilst he is a decent passer for Croatia he's not brave enough to be a playmaker for Barcelona-as he favours the easy ball or backpass .
He's too slow ( slowest in the whole squad ) so he's not destructive like a Kante or Fernandhino ..
He's not even menacingly evil like Vidal ..or even nuisance value like Paulinho used to have ..
It's an ongoing mystery why we persist with him tbh

I can see why his heart isn't in football ..
Some of us are simply expressing an opinion on a player in a forum .
You are being rude to a fellow member which is not allowed under the forum rules .
Great post... can someone reveal what his defined role in the squad actually is?
He doesn't excel in any one area of the game so I don't even know if he can even be classed as a specialist of any sorts.
Very, very average player and it routinely shows when he faces the top clubs in Europe.

In a team with Busquets, Arthur, Coutinho, he is by far the best defender and hardworker.
He is covering for defensive flaws of our other starters.

Rakitic is a top class player. One of the best players of the world cup, and while he may frustrate you he is not perfect (not a Xavi), you should notice Barca is a far inferior team without him. More reliance on Roberto or Paulinho instead of him in the middle of the park produced a less effective Barca--particularly against stronger sides. Now maybe there won't be a drop off with Vidal, but that is because Vidal is also a bad ass (complete midfielder) and hopefully between them they can stay fresh and give a lot of legs to defend and attack, and use good judgement on when to do which.
People are choosing the midfield lineup like they're playing FIFA. Coutinho gives the ball away and jogs like he didn't do that in the most dangerous part of the field. I am just hoping he won't do that playing against top teams.
Actualy i m just expressing my opinion on people who bash Rakitic over and over again with the "back passes" argument.

Roberto and Vidal can cover and defend just as much if not more than Rakitic. They're more dynamic and hardworking without the ball, and way way more useful with the ball. So what do we need Rakitic for ?
Btw Rakitic has never been a world class player at Barca after 2014-2015 season.

I have said: in a team with Busquets, Coutinho and Arthur.
Roberto will be a Rb because Semedo will probably be a good, old Semedo.
Vidal played 1 game for Barca and it will take time to learn mechanisms.
Rakitic is the most played Barca's midfielder in the last 4 years.
Btw. he will be a starter Cm and the 2nd pick as Busi's sub as a Cdm.
With Busi's decline in pace, Rakitic is currently either the 2nd most reliable midfielder behind Busi, or the 1st placed.
Cou is a questionable Cm.
Roberto will be a Rb.
Arthur has a looooot to learn.
Rafinha squad level.
Puig, Samper, Alena, kids.
Vidal, needs a lot of learning to adapt to our style.
In short, Rakitic will play almost every match in both 433 and 442 on several different positions.
