What happened with this guy whom we wanted to buy last summer?

He was hailed as the next big thing, a player who can play on all positions, the next Pogba, and possibly a Ballon D Or winner one day...

Insane

I know where he is playing.

I am "surprised" how he hadn't conquer the world yet and how we haven't heard much about him this year.

In 90s or in early 00s, we never chased unknown Brasilians.
On the other hand, with Barto, it seems as if his fetish are Brasilian players and as if Barca/world will explode if we don't follow/try to buy xx (amount) of known or unknown Brasilians for insane prices each summer.

And every one of them is hailed as the next big thing.

It seems that Barto lives in 90s when Brasilians were by far the best players in the world and the most suitable players for majority of top teams.

We all know that our crooked board does crooked business in Brazil, so it should hardly surprise anyone that a random Brazilian talent we were chasing hasn't evolved into the next great thing.

Who did we buy for those insane prices so far except for Neymar (who was worth that based on his talent/performances so far) though? No one. Douglas costed us 5M which is not insane money and Robert to Barça B was on loan. The same as Marlon will be if those rumours lately for his loan to Barça B are correct. But he's rated as one of better CB talents in Brasil and at our position of longterm need so it makes sense.

Yes, we are linked to other Brazilians but so we are to many other players around the world every summer. Doesn't mean we'll buy all of them.

2008: Henrique 8+2 M Euros
-- 0 matches for Barca in his career
-- 8-10M back then was like 20-25M today
Imagine buying a 20-25M player today who never plays for you in the end.

2009: Keirrison, 14+2 M Euros
-- 0 matches for Barca in his career
-- 14-16M Euros is like 30-40M today
Again, imagine buying a player for that sum who won't play for us at all.

2013: Neymar: only God knows how many Millions have we actually paid for him in the end for:
-- transfer fee
-- to his dad
-- to 3rd parties
-- first option for young players from Santos as a part of this deal
-- penalties on court
-- now new payments 7-17 Millions to DIS (3rd party) as a part of Neymar's extension deal (Neymar doesn't want to pay money to DIS, since DIS is asking for new amounts of money because they think that 40M paid to Ney's dad is a transfer fee, and now they are again asking to get a new percentage of that. Barca needs to pay additional money to DIS again, between 7 and 17M Euros)

2014: Douglas, 4 M
2015: almost "new Pogba" Gerson + Robert

From last 7 Brasilians, 3 were horrible (Henrique, Keirrison, Douglas), one was insanely strange deal full of scams on 100s levels (Neymar).
And then we have 3 normal transfers in Alves, Maxwell and Adriano, but these 3 players came from European teams, so we didn't have scams here.

So, basically, our 4 last transfers of Brasilians DIRECTLY from Brasil, all ended in huge scams, failures or huge controversies:
Henrique, Keirrison, Neymar, Douglas.

Yes, I know that some of these transfers were from Laporta's era also, but something is strange with transfers of Brasilians from Brasil to Barca:
1. either majority of presidents in Brasil are also criminals
2. or our board are criminals who sign deals with Brasilian criminals (team owners)
3. or we are just insanely unlucky with transfers of Brasilian players (directly from a Brasilian league) to Barca

Strange stuff...

Basically.... Most of the crooked transfer business with that we have managed with Brazilian clubs probably has some sort of connection with Rosell, be it the present board or the previous one. And money laundering is only expected in the ownership system that Barcelona follows!

Gerson is just 19 and he is moving to one of the top teams in Calcio ,he isn't no body tbf.The price Roma was willing to pay suggest it isn't Barca going for Brazilians in insane way
Barca,Roma Juve wanted him.Roma paid the most money and we decided not to match and get our money from the 1st option back.

Rosell didn't have anything to do with Keirrison and Henrique's transfers, they were done during Laporta's presidency.

Neymar, yes, they messed that up but no one can deny that he was bought for the right reasons - his football talent.

For Douglas I read a year or so ago from some pretty reliable source that it was one board member who really pushed Zubi to sign him and he has gone from the club at around same time as Zubi. That journalist is very critical to Barto but he said that Barto didn't have much to do with that Douglas transfer.

As for Robert, he was loaned to Barça B and we only paid his wages, so again, I don't think there was really something strange about that. The same will be probably for Marlon if we get him. We are obviously looking for that young CB "project" and maybe he can be that after one year development in Barça B.

Don't know much about both Gerson (who signed with Roma) or Gabriel Jesus, but they were/are both followed by other big clubs so they are at least considered talented players and not next Keirrison/Douglas. Of course, how they'll work out in Europe it's another question but I don't think Barça's interest in them should really be considered as something suspicious.

I read Roma has pretty big plans for Gerson, He was loaned back out to Fluminense, due not having enough EU spots on the roster.

They say he's likely going to be Pjanić's replacement at Roma.

I don't think it works when players come straight from Brazil to Barca. Neymar was an exception as he was an established star who'd beasted tournaments for Brazil. He still took a year to settle but was given the time because of all that was invested in him.

Some teenager is likely to go the way of Kerrison.

Ronaldo, Ronaldinho or Rivaldo were ideal in that came to Europe first and settled and developed their game.

This guy Gerson was just a mediocre player. Look at what I said in the beginning of this thread. The guy hadnt shown anything in Brazil. The deal was very shady. People wanted him because other clubs were interested in him even though he hadnt shown anything to warrant that price. The guy wasnt even a starter for his club.

Theirs some players who could come from Brazil and adapt rather quickly but still be Raw, but Gerson is not one of those players.

From the little games he played so far with Roma, he's no where near even ready for them. paying 17-20 Million on Gerson and considering Roma isn't exactly in a position to pay that much for a really Raw Prospect in Gerson was a big gamble.

They need to loan him out for him to get minutes to prove spending the money on him was actually worth it.
