Fernando Torres

Buffon moved at the same time, no chance for torres to move left again , and the defender was on the other side, messi probably could have moved left again, but he is not a normal player:

Look at 0:22 you can see Buffon already moving to the left side while Torres is going straightforward.. it's just a split second but it's details like this that make the difference.

Why did he not just chip the ball in like Ramires? That's an empty net there tbh.

a split second yes, but i doubt alot of strikers would have done it differently though,

IT is really down to his first touch being way way to far out in front of him.. allowing Buffon to get really close fast

If the keeper come out, as a striker you have two options, either rounding the keeper or trying to lob him.
As soon as Torres saw him coming out he decided to round him , left was not really an option so he right, buffon anticipated that. If rounding was the right decision is up for debate.

actually the lob was out of the question because of his bad first touch

It's one hell of a mismanagement of Torres by del Bosque though. Why take him to the tournament and then not trust him to start a game in the group stages ahead of Fabregas? What kind of signal does this send to his strikers?

He shouldn't be at this euro. I hope vdb has some sense and plays Llorente or negredo next game.

He was in the exact same situation 4 years ago against Germany and he scored.

Pretty much sums up his decline.

The chances he spurned were quite difficult chances TBF. Easier chances were missed in the game. RvP who spurned far easier chances vs Denmark didn't get these much stick.

His peak at Liverpool was a giant Fluke.

Just look at his career and goals record at Atletico and compare it to now.

He's back down to his natural level.

could have passed Navas instead of trying the chip. Navas had an open goal in front of him and no defenders close by.

The chances weren't that tough. If you are starting for Spain you would be expected to convert them. Admittedly the second one was difficult, but he had a great option to pass to Navas and still went for glory. Ramirez and C9 scored from similar situations with ease against Barca
