and some people can't understand that sometimes clubs are not wiling to sell their player or players themselves don't want to move or asking insane salaries. It's easy to blame the board is not buying this player or that, but nothing you can do if club doesn't want to sell. Like City will not sell Aguero unless you offer them stupid amount of money. But that's what Real Madrid is doing. If you like this player acquisition porn- switch to Mardid. Barca is never that club. Let's not forget that with "out of position Mascherano" we won UCL. Just remember Madrid's Galactico-s failure. Again, I like what I've seen so far: they appointed good coach, bought great goalies, closed the deal on Halilovich, brought back promising youngsters. I hope they will continue to do the right things and don't want to be cynical. And finally stop bashing Zubi- no one here has the skills or the knowledge to understand which player is right for Barca. Everyone screams about Benatia because he's hot now and the big clubs are after him. But Real paid under 10Mil for Varane and that guy is better than many world class player. No one even heard his name before.

Precisely, this forum used to have intelligent posters, nowadays it's just children screaming at the club for not spending like Real, even more laughable is the comparison between Alexis and Pedro, according to this forum the only thing that matters is stats, no more discussions just throw in the stats and laugh at others.

Definitely not defending the board here, because what got us into this mess is them not making moves for players in crucial positions earlier, which leaves us "needing" several positions filled at once. Not to mention the impending transfer ban which makes us even more desperate because we can't reinforce in January or next summer. However, even if they did successfully buy several players this summer it could be a disaster. Not just because of using Madrid's galacticos as an example, but the fact that the Barca philosophy is specific and players need time to adapt to it. If you bring in too many newbies at once it sets them up for failure.

There's a lot of intelligence in this post, I like that... There's too much 'jump on the deal of the day' attitude on here, but well this a forum after all, what can you expect..

However there is some points to mention :
* There's definitely an urgency to sign a top central defender this year. Actually the urgency has been here for 4 years if I can remember. We have played the march-april do-or-die games for the last 4 years with make-shift defence -> I can remember Toure, Busquets, Adriano, injured Bartra etc... On top of that Puyol leaves... We are years late in fixing our defence
* Following a 7-0 aggregate defeat last year against Bayern, it should have been clear something needs to be done in defence. Contrary to what was needed, we spent only on our attack, paying an astronomous amount of money on Neymar, neglecting once again our defence. So stating we don't spend 'madrid-like' is somewhat over the top. I wouldn't mind us over-spending this year on our defence for a change.

Of course that's not what I'm saying. There's much more to be done than just signing some defenders. And indeed most of our issues can/should get fixed without signing this or that player. Of course we need again the team-mentality & coherence.. And that cannot be fixed by signing X or Y player.. However, I do think it is a fact that we are understaffed at defence, and this for years already.

Let's be honest, we are a team that can spend, so why not spend on where we need it most, defence. I could not understand last year that everybody agreed defence was priority, that we eventually did not sign a quality defender, supposedly because we don't want to overpay, yet we could splash out millions & millions on Neymar. I'm not against Neymar, but the board should get priority straight for once.. It would not hurt us to spend 5-10M above market-value for the defender the board/coach deems necessary..

And yes, not every player is willing to come, or not every club is willing to sell at the moment Barça wants to sign... However, don't tell me that in last 4 years not 1 decent opportunity has come along to sign a good defender. And yes, once Barça calls the price goes up by 5-10M, but that is the same for any player, defender or attacker, so don't let 5-10M gap be once again the 'reason' we could not sign this or that player.

That's obviously a correct statement in general. However in Barca's case the main problem hasn't been collective defending in the past 2 seasons, although the workrate can also improve. The team has conceded about 20 set piece goals this season. Including the title winning goal of Atletico. Which is absolutely embarrassing for any top tier team. Just look at the big games in the past 2 seasons:

Against Real Madrid last season Varane scored 2 goals in the CdR from headers. Ramos scored from a header. This season Benzema destroyed Mascherano in the air.

PSG last season Silva won the header for their equalizer.

Bayern last season were battering us on corners. Dante won the header for one of their goals in Allianz. Mandzukic header goal in Camp Nou.

Man. City Dzeko header.

The list is endless. Even if a header doesn't directly result in a goal any top tier team coming close to Barca's box in numbers just needs to cross a ball in and danger happens from a follow-up play. You can't clown around with Alves, Mascherano and Alba in defense, 3 out of 4 players smaller than 5'8. It's unprofessional.

Its silly season, give your houlier than thou attitude a break. Its not like the people who complain actually contribute to the forum most of the times either.

Its a transfer thread, you're gonna get people scream about that player and this player and people calling out for splashing the money out of pure frustration. You're gonna get people go off-topic and start talking about other things.

If you want an intelligent discussion then try to start one and see you'll get those kind of sensible post you want, but you got to contribute with those as well of course and not just hide and come up with sly remarks and take shots at others.
