Because if they give him a 2 year contract they wont be able to sell him for anywhere near the 18m they are paying for him.
He will probably be here 1 year max and we'll probably sell him for like 10-15m next year to some lower mid-table club.

out of all the signings they could have made Braithwaite is the worst
1) he does not score enough goals that is what they are buying so it makes no sense
2) paying 8 million more then they should be paying right now 10 million is tops they should be paying like for Angel
3) 4 more years for a total 4.5 year contract SERIOUSLY?????? sheer insanity no one will be him from us another loss coming up if we don't get stuck with him we will have to give him away

Dunno what their financial situation is but maybe they want to sell before the clause becomes active. That way they would make around 100mil profit in 6 months and have around 60m more than with the clause.
So atleast try to get him with the Lautaro money and give them Rakitic while we’re at it.

Let's repeat this one more time. There was literally zero chance we could've signed Haaland now. People here really act as if we're the only big club in the world who all players would die to play for and it's always our fault when players decide to go to another club instead of coming here for whatever reason. Sure, Bartomeu, Abidal&Co. made a lot of mistakes but if we are realistic not getting Haaland is not one of them.
Haaland and Raiola want to make a step by step progress in his career and not jump straight to a big club. His next step in 2021 will probably be going to a club like United (with Raiola again negotiating a buy out clause in his contract after a few years) and then in 2-3 years Raiola will bring him to Spain or maybe to Juve.
So for people wanting him in 2021 who will again blame our stupid board to not get him that's Raiola's most likely plan. More transfers more money for him and I believe Haaland also wants to play in the EPL. 2023/24 will be our most realistic chance to get him if he'll continue like he has started his career. By that time our amigos should all be out of the club, Xavi will probably fail as a coach here trying to replicate Pep's tiki-taka and we could make a true rebuild and Haaland could be one of the stars of that next team (hopefully with a coach who won't be as obsessed with a possesion football).

Also, according to France football we're interested in Mustafa Kapi whose contract with Galatasaray is expiring in June so we'd only need to pay them some small fee for formation rights. Kapi made his first team debut for Gala in a friendly when he was only 14 and official debut at age 16. He's currently not on the best term with the club because he has rejected all of their attempts to renew his contract.

Looks quite talented to me. Would probably be a Barça B signing or send on loan for a few seasons to see how he'll develop if we'll actually get him. He'll probably sign with another club though.

There was no way we were getting Haaland instead of Dortmund, don't know why people keep saying this.

49 million euros for Trincao and Braithwaite, one of whom will not even arrive until summer as a longer term project. The other of whom will be sold immediately upon season's end to who knows where (probably China).

Carles Perez was free as is Alex Collado.

And let's not forget the most glaring need on the team, a quality center back (preferably two). Oh, and you loaned out one of the most promising players on the team in Todibo.

I keep seeing people mentioning Haaland but its not as simple as 20mil. Raiola wanted a low release clause and Haaland wanted game time to develop, something he wouldn't get at Barca with club de amigos running the show
agree with the others though. letting Todibo leave was utterly brainless especially if the board had concerns about Valverdes future at the time

Yes, as I said, I mention it to highlight shrewd business (regardless of Raiola motives) versus a total crapshow. Dortmund will fund an entire generation through Haaland and Sancho.
Regarding Todibo, just don't get that one with everything about Umtiti currently. Just astonishing incompetence we've never seen at a club this size.
