So we know we had this discussion previously... and some of the more experienced have gone on record defending the CL and the winners of the cup. But the question does arise again, with Chelsea currently crowned the European champions.

Are CL winners really the best in Europe?

Proved once and for all... The European winners proves ufck all about the capabilities of a team!!

You gotta, at least, win your own league to even be considered among the best! But the resident Madridistas would have you believe it's the opposite, because they gotta justify the 9 European crowns they won!!

Out of frustration, because of the football proceedings from tonight, I forgot to check the option to keep the votes visible

Of course. And also Chelsea is going to dominate Europe for years to come. #dalitis #Azzido de Gay

not necessarily.

it can all line up; like us in 2006, 2009 and 2011, or Bayern in 2001, Milan in 2007 and United in 2008.

but it often doesn't.

2000: Bayern/Real
2001: Bayern/Bayern
2002: Leverkusen/Real
2003: Real/Milan
2004: Milan/Porto
2005: Milan/Liverpool
2006: Barcelona/Barcelona
2007: Milan/Milan
2008: United/United
2009: Barcelona/Barcelona
2010: Barcelona/Inter
2011: Barcelona/Barcelona
2012: Barcelona/Chelsea

Interesting. So you reckon Milan were the best in Europe despite getting smoked by Super Depor in 04?

Of course not. Chelsea are nowhere near the best, and hadn't even played their best a lot of the tournament.

Not necessarily but it's the biggest tournament to win in Europe and much more important that a domestic league title.

Nope not necessarily, too many factors in a competition like CL, such as luck or the other side just having a bad game and you capitalized on it. The league results (generally) speak at a much louder volume than CL.

Obviously not.

That's true for all Cup competitions, though.

This year is the most blatant case of a team who's not even remotely close to being the best in Europe winning it though. Surely the weakest team to win it in the Champions League era (from 1992)
