Rebic was decisive in Croatia win against ARG. I thought he would get a second YC for fouling Messi, but referee decided that RC was too much and a few minutes later he scored the goal that decided the match (Caballero's gift).
Dirty player, or should he be described as "very physical" and strong?

Hard to think of similar player but Pedro comes to mind. Pedro had better technique but Rebić is stronger.

Sometimes I think all we really need is his type of player on right flank to offset Messi's deficiency.

I don't really see him as a starter there unless he can really up his game. Some ok WC games are one thing but his league stats are just terrible if we're honest here.
