Alex Song

It is being reported as 17m which is a loss of around 20m.

Song was a poor transfer but lets not hold up the handling of Illaramendi as some great piece of business by Real.

Selling Illa for such a great sum of money is truly amazing, no matter how you spin it. And they bought Isco from Sociedad for like 27m the same summer so its not like they feel cheated by Sociedad. Our transfer policy suck, thats just the reality.

Isco has never played for Sociedad.

Real have this summer -

Sold Illaremendi for a 20m loss after two years.
Let Khedira move on for free a few years after paying 12 for him
Loaned out Coentrao a few years after paying 30m for him.

This idea that Real are great at selling players is not that accurate. Could name loads of players they haves lost a lot of money on - Kaka etc.

Barca bought Song right at the end of a transfer window, after failing to get a CB. The team felt they had to do something, given the extreme thinness at CB, complicated by one of the top two Barca CBs being the backup at DM.

Not all the Barca player acquisitions have worked out over the last few years. No team hits the jackpot every time. But Barca has spent just a fraction buying players than the billion euros RM has spent, and look who has been winning almost all the trophies.

Barca did fine deals selling quite a few players, like Torre, Cesc, Alexis, Pedro, and several of the youngsters. They did have to sell some real cheap or free, which reflected the players' market value.

If that was us with Illaramendi we would have loaned him out a few seasons then sell him with a buy abck obligation if the club doesnt like it followed by him leaving for free.
We suck at selling, clubs always low ball us and get away with it while RM buys smarter and sells much better.
How we manage to own them so much over the last decade is despite the board rather than thanks to them.

Real consistently does great business selling, and we consistently don't. Them losing money on Illaramendi doesn't change that.

The 3 dutch were major losses. Robben, VDV, Huntelaar. Kaka. 65M to trash. etc.

That does not deny the fact that Song is still in barça on the 26th. And it will be a loan..again. The injury may be an excuse.

Sometimes yes: Ozil, Varane, etc.
Sometimes not: Kaka, 5 dutch, woodgate, etc

I know but lets say since Perez 2 they have been smart with buys, atleast smarter than us, we have had some truly disgracefull buys over the years and they definitely sell much better than us.

To me its us being lucky with the generation that results in us doing better that covers for our failing board. Had Messi been at Madrid for example it would have been di stefano 2 in many ways for them with Ronaldo as Puskas.

No way has Perez been smarter with his buys than Barca.

Barca have signed loads of players for less than other clubs would pay and in big money signing like Suarez and Neymar have got it right much more so than juts about nany other club going.

Real sells Illara for 20 mil. and we go for 2 years of loans for Song.
I don't know how they don't feel ashamed of themselves when they pick up their ceo paychecks.

We're dreadful at selling players. Real wouldn't have got themselves in a position to have to sell Pedro for 20 million. They'd have got double. Next to nothing for Adama and Deulefeu as well who will both be worth much more after ripping up the Premier League.

Because of the mess of the transfer ban we might as well keep Song until January rather than loan him. We need the numbers and it's better than having Gumbau on the bench.

We've got away with it because we've been lucky enough to have greats like Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Puyol and Busquets for free in transfer terms because they've come through the youth. That's not going to happen again so we have to be smarter in the market.

Real have just let Coentrao got out on loan a few years after paying 30m for him, Khedira has gone for free, Casillas has gone for free and Illaramendi has gone for a 20m loss.

Real have lost huge money on the likes of Kaka as well.

Barcelona have made loads of good signings in recent years - Alba, Rakitic, Mascherano, Suarez, Neymar, Bravo, Ter Stegen.

This idea that Real under Perez have been great in the transfer market compared to Barca is just false.

The difference is that Real sold Di Maria, Ozil, Higuain for really big fees, while we let all our player go for peanuts, if Real were selling Cesc, Alexis or Yaya they would have gotten double the money we got

Really, counting Casillas as a "bad transfer"

We let Xavi go for free in that case too.
