would you have preferred to pay more than that for say benatia who if got injured then back to square one defensively? i'd rather two cb's than one who everyone thinks is going to be barca's savior

Pretty sure he has been available for average of over 40 games the past two seasons.

Well I'm optimistic. I'm a naturally optimistic person, but there it is, I am. I think Vermaelen will do well. My expectations are not through the roof, but they also don't need to be. There is depth, there is talent and there is competition again at the CB spot. We can go back and forth with who we think should and should not have been bought, but here we stand, with 4 solid competitive CBs for the new season.
Barcelona have competed and won for years with questions at the CB position, having 4 solid options to choose from, with Masche for emergency I think should have everyone satisfied at the very least.
