Modric and suarez were already WC player, so you knew what you can expect

Dembele is promising talent who had one great season at dortmund, you just cant compare him with suarez and modric, guy has 150m price tag on his back, high salary already, its not hard to doubt if he will turn to be great or most expensive flop

So what you are saying is that you'd expect a world class player like Suarez or Modric to eventually perform because you know their qualities therefore it would be smart to give them time.

So in retrospect you have a 20 year old talent who is already a French International, voted the best young player in bundesliga last season and had two great seasons with Dortmund and Rennes.

There is literally no reason as to why the same logic shouldn't apply to Dembele.

After season 12 13 Modric was voted to Flop Transfer of the season. Now he is one of the best midfield player ever at Real madrid. You see even great players need time to show their masterclass. :barcascarf:

I think EV should deploy him as a RW not a RM, since he has the pace and agility to exploit the opponents defence and would be less likely to be caught offside. Plus he still hasnt quite mastered the control and passing and our off the ball movements are terribly limited. We were literally 11 stationary cones when attacking Getafe, and I feel Dembele can provide more of those first. Like how Neymar did in his first season.

His crossing is good though. That would be perfect as a RW like it is with Vidal.

Not sure why EV wants our players to play out of position. Coutinho, Paco, Gomes and now Dembele just to accommodate his 442 formations.

433:

---------------------MATS-------
Semedo/Roberto----Pique---Umtiti----Alba
-----------------Busquets--------
---Raki/Paulinho-------Iniesta/Coutinho
Messi---------Suarez--------Demebele

The novelty of it has been kind of found out. Wouldn't mind us to try something like that, especially when teams crowd the middle of the park. Just put Messi and Dembele wide and mess them up.

messi as RW is a liability defensively.
he works best in the center.

formations so far have been
4-4-2 / 4-3-1-2 / 4-2-3-1 or 4-2-2-2

not that it matters because we never stick with one formation all game long but that's what valverde has done practically all season long

Time to end the 4-4-2 or "workhorse" experiment and switch back to the 4-3-3. In recent weeks teams have figured out the 4-4-2 by cutting off passes from the fullbacks into the box and with the fullbacks being isolated the formation is dead.

No. Can't risk the balance we attained and gamble. 4-4-2 got us on the brink of domestic double after guys like you thought Barca were dead and Messi should move to City.

4-4-2 has got us to the brink of the domestic double but hasn't worked nearly as well the the past few weeks. If we keep using it we will only drop more points and will likely be knocked out of the Champions League. The 4-3-3 won us two trebles, so why did we switch to the 4-4-2, because we didn't have the players for the system. Did you forget how well the 4-3-3 was working for us at the start of the season? We were thoroughly dominating teams and contrary to what some may think we were just as solid defensively. The 4-4-2 is starting to break down and instead of sitting around and waiting for it to collapse and jeopardize our season, we should be proactive and take preventative measures.

The 4-4-2 didn't provide us any "balance", maybe in comparison to last season's 4-3-3 with Lucho, but the 4-3-3 Valverde started the season with was even better. The 4-4-2 is a step down from Valverde's 4-3-3 and it doesn't improve our defense that much either.

or maybe we are just struggling because we are in the most congested schedule of the season?
just a theory

We are struggling because players aren't machines. We have many key players aged 29-30 and they have been playing a lot recently due to injuries and other squad players unable to step in.

If you are fretting over Chelsea, can you imagine how they feel?

Would bin the 4-4-2 in the CL if we struggle heavily against Chelsea and in danger of bouncing out.

I hope Valverde starts

Iniesta - Rakitic - Busquets - Paulinho

To see if it truly will work well. No Gomes pls.
