10 - Lionel Messi - v5

Don't forget that Messi was leading him 4-1 in BDs and now CR7 is going to tie him 5-5. It tells you that Messi has dropped a few levels below his absolute best and Ronaldo has improved his game since 2013. Since that 2013 injury away to PSG, Messi just hasn't been the same player that he used to be. He lost a bit of that acceleration and explosiveness that made him near unstoppable. Best Messi was from 2007-2013. 2015 was good but still not on the level that he was on during those years.

Messi 2015 was easily better than Messi 2008-2013 except for that unbelievable 2011/12 season.

Ronaldo still had some big performances before the last two months. Destroyed Atletico away with hat trick for example.

Messi wasnt consistently great either. He was poor in the CL knockout bar one game he was good but nothing great away to Juve.

He destroyed them in UCL, not in the league. In the league he was very lucky, his goals were a deflected free kick, a tap-in and a penalty.

He got hattrick away to Atletico in the league and in home in CL.

Ronaldo had some great goals and performances in the league as well particularly towards the end and in games where got hat trick away to Atletico.

Wasnt all free kicks and tap ins. Thats just a lazy cliche.

I meant that his 3 goals away vs Atletico in the league were a deflected free kick, a tap-in and a penalty, not that he scores only these types of goals.

Exactly.

He and Messi are both under huge scrutiny any time dont play well. Nothing unique to Messi.

Just saying there's much more into the criticism Cristiano got after Betis game other than "meh, didn't score goal".

Also, Cristiano usually gets away with goals even though he doesn't play well.

Yes. Thanks to a free-kick goal via deflection, scoring a penalty and tapping the ball into an open net.

For anyone who actually watched the game, Cristiano was underwhelming apart from showing up on Livescore x3.

That's a great example of my previous comment where Cristiano goals masked his shit game.

Isco on the other hand was the one who actually destroyed Atleti in a similar manner like he did vs. Italy few weeks ago.

You can't honestly claim Ronaldo is better footballer than Messi this year?

And to be honest, he isn't even the best player on Real Madrid.

The likes of Kroos, Modric, Marcelo, Isco etc. were more crucial for Madrid last season.

Ronaldo has 10x a better team that does everything to for him.
Its not that Ronaldo has ever been better. The times Ronaldo have won, its becouse Messi has had a shitty team around him, or been injured.
The people that vote mostly go by stats or popularity, Ronaldo scores alot of goals, but thats it. What Messi does, doesnt show in stats.
This board is pretty much giving Ronaldo prizes, and hell win again this year.

The penalty he won after they couldnt handle his movement. Same with third goal they couldnt get near him off the ball.

Ronaldos pace and movement killed them in that game.

Flip side of that is can remember Messi scoring tap in away to Atletico and it was all about him scoring when team needed him etc. Cant have it all ways.

+ Ronaldo has a shitty attitude on the pitch.

You can't even feel sorry for him when he does bad.

Haha no they dont do everything for him. He does more to help that team win than anyone else.

In past have heard Di Maria was their best player and reason they won, now its some other players. The constant is him and he did it at Man Utd as well.

Same as when Messi had prime Xavi/Iniesta who were better than this Real sides supporting cast bitter folk would claim Messi had it easy.

Ronaldo has produced year after year in different teams with different supporting casts as has Messi.

But Messi has been better overall.

You are making up your own things to argue against.

Ronaldo gets criticized when plays badly as does Messi. That is the point.

IT was justified v Betis for Ronaldo as he played shit and couldnt score.

Totally disgaree about Atletico away. They couldnt handle him the whole game and two of his goals came from that.

He won the penalty because of a defender's mistake, not because of him. The third goal happened because Atletico were 2-0 down thanks to a deflected free kick and the defender's mistake, started attacking and were exposed to counterattacks.
If you say he destroyed them in UCL I agree, I don't agree he destroyed them in the league, he was by all means very lucky in that game.

He won the penalty as defender couldnt handle his movement and pace and made a mistake.

Can remember watching the game clearly and they couldnt handle him at all and his movement.

No he wasn't, that is nonsense. Messi was untouchable from 2007-2013 and since the injury he suffered against PSG in 2013, he simply hasnt been the same.

He was as good as he has ever been in second half of 2014-15.

Nohting to do with PSG injury since then.
