it's almost as if young Messi and 30 years old Messi are the same person...
Not 100% true. He's still deadly around, and in the box, but he does less big long sprints while dribbling many players with the ball.
That doesn't mean he isn't as good, just different.
Ronaldo is the same in that regard. He doesn't play the same as when he was young.
Messi will change too. He'll get older, and will not be as fast, but as long as he still scores tons of goals he will remain the best.

Messi hasnt been brilliant while the rest have choked though.
If not for likes of Masche and Romero Argentina go out in the semi finals of last WC most likely as Messi was pretty much invisible bar a couple decent moments.
Messi needs to play better for Argentina in crunch games AND his team mates need to step up more for them to have any chance.

If Messi decides to play into his late 30s, I believe he has a good chance of hitting 900-1000 goals.
Messi is not obsessed with it unlike some primadona in Madrid. Compare Messi and Ronaldo assists or try to remember when was the last time Cristina let someone else shoot a penalty or a fk.
We'll need to replace Suarez in a year or two and let that new guy take care of goals while Messi slowly steps back as attacking midfielder.
