I dont know what to think about this signing. He's old, but has that energy and mentality of the winner. But, in the other hand, if the injury thing avoid us, treble or bust expectation is all over

He's just turned 31... for £20m the Club could get a couple of brilliant seasons out of him.

O cmon, how easily is to make blind some barca fans with few fancy signings to forget all the shit bartro and his friend rosell did to barca, socios are the same, its sad

Best move for barca will be when bartomeu is done here, all this new signings doesnt mean much when you have uncompetitive board

Edit: only real madrid domination in CL did make this board to act, after 3 in 3 years, i guess its never to late

All it takes is one summer for people to start hyping up the board and other people in charge as if they've been doing a great job for years

Looks like people already forgot last summer, or the fact that the club got prosecuted in the Neymar fraud trial and the board took a deal for the club's name to get dirty so they could avoid a trial themselves.

Actually 30-33 is the peak of a players career

Here is the top 5 list of most expensive players in history:

Age 31+

1. Ronaldo 117m
2. Batistuta 36m
3. Bonucci 35m
4. Vidal 21m (a year left on his contract)
5. Redondo 17.5m

Age 32+
1. Ronaldo 117m
2. Llorente 15m
3. Tevez 10m
4. Jose Fonte 9m
5. Xabi Alonso 9m

So among players who have turned 33, Ronaldo is 13 times more expensive than any other player in history, with Jose Fonte in 2nd place at 9m as a 33 year old.

31+ is irrrelevant.

He is closer in age to some of the players aged 30 than those others on list.

As usual you pick and choose when to apply 'the current market' and it is always to make out a bad deal for Barca either way.

As for 31+ you are missing Giroud and Bravo.

My statement wa wrong, 30-33 isn’t necessarily the peak of a players career, it varies from player to player.

Anyway spending 21m on a player is nothing for Barcelona and the sale of Digne basically funded the transfer fee by itself. Don’t know why you are so uptight over such a small fee.

Nothing this board do will ever make them 'the good guys' but that doesn't mean this transfer window cannot be good, because it has been great.

Sometimes we get too caught up on age. You can buy a player at 25, he’s mediocre for 6 years. But buy a 31 year old and he’s top class for 2 or 3. It varies from player to player.
Plus a player at 31 in modern football still has a few good years at the top level. A lot of sportsman are playing well into their late 30s now.

Bizarre signing like many over the past few years , Bayern pulled a master stroke here. best days are well gone and will be injured most of his contract.

What is bizarre about this signing? Pep signed him and he was a key player for Bayern. Under Sampaoli he was a key player for Chile winning two Copas.

Vidal brings something different. Aggression and leadership. With our bunch of neutered choir boys this is important. Mascherano and Puyol were our last leaders and characters in the dressing room. Also Vidal will give as good as he gets. Whether it be Ramos or Casemiro they will know he's on the pitch.

In a Cl match hi experience and physicality will be key. He covers alot of ground and never hides. He puts a full shift in every match giving 100%.

If he keeps fit he will be a Valverde favorite.

Bizarre that people whinge and bitch about acquiring a proven winner for a reasonable fee.

Yeah, its pretty clear that 30-33 is the decline of players, very rarely the peak, as seen by the quite shocking decline of players going for any type of money in that age range. In the top 50 list of most expensive players who have turned 30, something like 80% are 30, 15% are 31 and hardly anyone is 32+ except Ronaldo. Ronaldo is an extreme outlier here, being 13 times more expensive than anyone else who have turned 33. Vidal with a year left on his contract is right up there among the most expensive ever at 31+. With a year left, the price usually falls to half. So there is nothing suspiciously low about the fee at all. This should also make us realize that we can not in any way count on oil clubs or Chinese clubs to offload our players once they age.

I'm no fan of the board but they've done well considering the state of the market.

Who have Rm, Psg, Chelsea, City, Bayern signed? Juve have done OK but there really are no real prospects or stars on the market.

Which is why Barca have paid nowhere near 'peak' price for Vidal.

Pointless comparisons as usual to other players as market is different now.
