21 - Frenkie de Jong

Havent read the last pages but Overmars confirmed a 75+11m fee. The 11m is 'pretty much' guaranteed. Ajax has to report this as they are listed on the exchange (for god knows why)

Like I said, it only matters if it screws the wage ladder more than necessary. If he moves up to being 4th or 5th highest earner on the team then something's not right.

The signing of a guy that young and handing him keys to the kingdom in the most important formation on the pitch is still a wee bit of a gamble, though not exactly a terrible one. Frenkie needs support in behind him, the narrative of him being a 1 to 1 Busi replacement are dodgy. If it's done to phase out Rakitić in time then sure, but you'll still need a proper pivot. Vidal is too old to do all the tackling and all the covering.

We might sign Rabiot and consider him a DM for us. I doubt we're going to sell Busi in the summer, and I assume De Jong will play alot considering his transfer fee. That means De Jong playing in a more advanced position. Rabiot will probably play in a more advanced position as well, if he joins, as long as Busi is around, but Busi will probably be gradually phased out.

Analysis on the profile of Frenkie de Jong and his skillsets (full credit to Bulgroz for the translation)

<div style="width: 100%; height: 0px; position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.250%;"><iframe src="https://streamable.com/s/vjy14/xccxwx" frameborder="0" width="100%" height="100%" allowfullscreen style="width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute;"></iframe></div>

De Jong is versatile, he can play as a CB, but he's more often used as a midfield, either in a double pivot, or as a CM.

- He's only 21, but he already assumes a lot of responsabilities, playing deep to help building up.
- His passes cut through defensive lines, finding players in empty spaces
- His long balls are also very accurate.
- He likes to play on the left, allowing him to find diagonal pass with his right foot. In this example, he's feinting a back pass with his head, hiding his pass forward.
- He also cuts through by dribbling. Playing as a CB, he's still taking the same kind of risks.
- When he's on the ball, he carries it just enough so that the opponent has to come to him, thus freeing a team mate.
- Physically, he's sometimes beaten. Defensively, he can be in trouble because of some kind of nonchalance.
- Here, an example of a tactical foul, to compensate (for his lack of speed/nonchalance).

To sum it up:

- Versatile, can play as a CB or CM
- Ubiquous, he's always trying to cut through, by passing or dribbling
- Physically, he sometimes lacks impact, and his defensive workrate is uneven.

Alba about to get PAID. Our wage structure will be fucked but it is what it is. Barto and co acting like it’s the Wild West with our spending.

What would Umtiti have to do with anything lol?

Rakitic, Vidal and Malcom will all be out the door before Coutinho imo.
