Jose Enrique

As a Newcastle United fan, I am surprised there was not a thread on him already.

Jose Enrique IS THE BEST LEFT BACK IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE THIS SEASON! And for me, he should be playing for Spain by now.

Jose has been nothing but solid at Left Back for Newcastle United for the past 2 and a half years. In the season when Newcastle were relegated he really came into himself and was unlucky to have suffered injuries in our final run in. Last season in the Championship he was Newcastle's best player, winning the award for Newcastle Best player in 09/10 season, and was easily best left back in the Championship. And now that we are back in the Premier League this season, Jose Enrique is showing again that he is the best in his position this season, Performing better than Cole, Evra, Baines, even Clichy!

He is such a good defender, NO ONE EVER GETS PAST HIM! I mean no one! He never gets beaten by the opposition winger, he is so strong and reads the game so well and is VERY FAST. He keeps the ball ever so well, has great close control, good passing. And when he goes forward, my goodness he can go forward and attack teams with the ball. He doesn't score enough goals, but he has come very very close.

Jose Enrique is a perfect fit for Barcelona. I suggest to all other Barca fans to watch more Newcastle games and pay close attention to Jose Enrique at Left Back!

He is WAY BETTER THAN MAXWELL. And I must say that Abidal is only slightly better than Jose.

Every game Newcastle United play, you will hear the fans chanting JOSE JOSE JOSE JOSE JOSE JOSE!!!! That is how good a left back he is! I sincerely mean it when I say this season he has been the best Left Back in the Premier League! I mean YOU MUST be a fantastic defender if the fans sing your name loudly every game after you show why you are the best, consistently, every single week!

As a Newcastle fan i hope we hold on to him. But given the stupid owner we have at Newcastle who has yet again destroyed our stability with a stupid act of firing a manager who was doing a good job for a promoted team, a manager who Jose describes as the best he has had at Newcastle.....I will not blame Jose if he leaves. Man Utd and Bayern Munich are reported to be interested in signing Jose now or in the summer.

Jose has said he loves Newcastle and wants to stay, but that you never know with this Owner. He has said he will only ever leave Newcastle for Barcelona.

If he ever leaves Newcastle I want him to join Barca.

Have any of you guys seen Jose Enrique playing this season? He has been nothing short of fantastic. And at 24 years old and with Abidal aging, Barca would be foolish not try to sign Jose Enrique. He will be Spains Left Back for years to come, I promise you!

Welcome to the forum, Jose Enrique's agent.

hahaha, thanks for the welcome.

You can joke about me being his agent LOL but I am being 100% Serious! He is the BEST LEFT BACK IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE this season! I am not exaggerating how good he is. Cole, Clichy, Evra have not preformed well at all this season. And Jose Enrique has been the standout Left Back in the Premier League this season.

There are other Newcastle fans on this forum. Just ask them how good they think Enrique is.

Welcome to the forum, Jose Enrique's agent.

Seriously though, I know this may just come across as typical fan bias but the OP is not far from the truth. José's distribution and attacking contributions are not as good as some of the top full backs but in terms of defensive solidity I wouldn't swap him for anybody. That is 100% honesty.

Can't remember the last time a winger got the better of him. Guy is taylormade for the Premier League considering his physical attributes.

He's been getting praised no end in the English media recently, which is starting to worry me a little bit.

I know, it might sound like fan Bias lol. But it is true. He is the Best Left Back in the league. You don't remember the last time a winger got the better of him, becuase NO ONE HAS GOT THE BETTER OF HIM THIS SEASON, OR EVER IT SEEMS

As for his distribution, his passing and keeping of possession of the ball is fantastic, along with his link up play.. His only weakness is that his crossing needs to be more consistent and that he should be getting more goals for such a good player. Did you see where he tried to Chip the goalkeepr against West Ham or Wigan I think? Would have been some goal.

He is a perfect Barca player.

See, personally HBA, I think he'd need to improve his distribution if he was to be good enough to play for Barca. He's no doubt comfortable on the ball in comparison to the rest of NUFC but put him in the Barca team and it's another level. Personally I think he's best suited to the Premier League where he will come up against natural width more often, as this is where he dominates. Should atleast be selected for the Spanish squad though, however seemingly unless he was to play in Spain or for a top team it is impossible for him to be recognised.

If I get the chance to I'll be making a video of him like the one I did for Carroll. Difficult though with defenders to display their qualities in comps, as it's necessary to source full matches rather than just specific goals or assists. Like I said he doesn't contribute as much going forward in the way Leighton Baines or Ashley Cole do, but in straight up head-head battles with a winger he literally always comes out on top. Go and have a look on Redcafe to see what they thought of him after marking Valencia out of the game at OT.

He really said that? He's good.
But are there any videos of him for this season? :D.

Yes he said that. But no there are no videos of him, he hasn't scored any goals this season in the Premier League for people to make videos of him. I will make some videos when my laptop is fixed. It will consist of opposition attackers trying to beat Jose Enrique, and Jose Enrique coming out on top EVERY SINGLE TIME, and passing the ball into midfield, or going on a lung bursting solo run past 3 or 4 players and supplementing the attack.

No Newcastle fan would swap Jose Enrique for ANY OTHER LEFT BACK IN THE WORLD! I am being serious, Newcaslte fans would not swap him for anyone else. He is the BEST Left Back in the Premier league, and for some Newcastle fans in the world. I am certain he will go on to show that in the near future. And HE WILL PLAY FOR SPAIN and be Number 1 Left Back for them.

This is a joke, right? Barca material?

It's good that other fans are ignorant of his qualities. Personally I think Barca is a step or 2 beyond his capabilities, but I can assure you it's hardly quite the ridiculous suggestion it would seem to outsiders like yourself. I'd feel I can give a fair assessment on any of our players and I'm realistic with each and every one of our squad members. I'm not goung to try and tell you Nolan is England quality or Carroll is worth the ridiculous fees being placed on his head.

However what I will say is this lad is a quality, quality footballer and one of the best I've seen in my time supporting NUFC. He's grossly underrated in the sphere of most football fans but I've noticed that media appreciation has increased recently. The cronies on Soccer Saturday were singing his praises the other week as a top 3 EPL left back, but I'd understand if you were to take their opinions with a pinch of salt.

I hear you. But i believe his distribution is fine to be honest. It is only when he tries crosses, which he can be very good at, that his distribution lets him down. Or when he becomes overconfident/showboating e.g. flicking the ball over opposition players heads in our defensive third, that is one of the very very very rare times he gives away the ball.

Yes Barca's passing game is on another level. But I have no doubt Enrique would slot right in. Jose is very very technically gifted, and calm under pressure and keeps possession of the ball very well and passes the ball very well. He does not have the consistency with long range cross-field balls that Barton or Beckham has., I admit.

Blueduck, you can laugh all you want. But if you watch Newcastle United matches for the rest of the season YOU WILL SEE, Jose Enrique is the best Left Back in the Premier League! He is 20 times better than Maxwell, and is very close to Abidal if not there already.

When Adam Johnson came on vs you lot he tore him apart and eventually scored due to Jose Enrique not marking him tight enough. Exhibit A: Link

I'll admit I have only watched him in big games but he has barely stood out at all. He's a decent player for a team like Newcastle but he's nothing more than that.

You really think that Barca is just a step too far for him?

I certainly don't agree with you. And you must agree that he is better than Maxwell of all people???

I would back him 100% to make the grade at Barcelona, and take over from Abidal(who has been the Best Left Back In the World this season for me).

You are right about one thing though, people on here and fans of other clubs do seem to be totally ignorant of how good a quality player Jose Enrique really is. Aye I saw the sky soccer saturday coverage of him, and it is about time as well. Maybe now fans of other clubs will sit up and take notice, although his performances this season should have been more than enough for them to do that.

Manchester United and Bayern want him supposedly, and with Ferguson watching a recent Newcastle game, it wouldn't surprise me if he left for Man Utd in the summer. And I wouldn't blame him. I love him as a player, and he certainly is one of the best players I have seen in my time watching the Toon as well.

For people laughing. Please tell me, which other Left Back in the world has their name sang loudly by the fans EVERY SINGLE GAME, HOME AND AWAY, EVERY WEEK, because they have performed to an unbelievably high level and so consistently WEEK IN WEEK OUT?

The only time I've seen him directly at fault for a goal in 2 seasons. I'd argue that goal is down to a good finish rather than the fullback being directly beaten too. (I was at that game btw :()

Ask any level headed NUFC fan young or old and they'll tell you he's far too good for us. He doesn't stand out because he's not a flash player, but he's ruthlessly effective defensively. I've watched your £18 million Serbian's career at Lazio and as an example he's not a better natural defender than Enrique is. He'll fire in a freekick from 25 yards but he couldn't mark a wide player out of a game, never has done.

I'd prefer it he stayed our secret in all honesty. I can see why you'd scoff at claims especially with the way my peer his hyping him within this thread, but I can also understand entirely why he's convinced of his qualities.
