Gini Wijnaldum

It's because of the nickname. Fans of him like to rave about "Gini" like he's their friend or something.
I understand that we are looking for a different profile of midfielder, but at least go with a young guy.
Thiago is twice the player "Gini" is.

Thiago is six months younger with a far worse injury record.

If the argument is age then Thiago falls into that as well.

I mentioned Thiago just because people were comparing the two.

I would still like for Barcelona to get someone younger.

I can't understand why are we even talking about Thiago? If Koeman wants Wijnaldum than we should try to get him and not some other guy that coach doesn't need or want.

Barto is that you?

All elite clubs operate with a DOF approach.

Including Bayern and Chelsea.

Coach should make do with what he has considering they'll only be around for 1-3 years.

No sporting project can be built by just acting on the whims of the current coach who won't even be around for long

All elite clubs listen to their managers and don't buy players simply because their name sounds better on the shirt. I am 100% sure we won't buy Thiago simply because we don't need that type of a player right now.

Thiago himself will save us from another transfer disgrace.
He does not want to come back.
He wants to join the EPL. Has been his dream since 2013 when his move to UTD was blocked by David Moyes

Need to give him a small contract. We can't afford to give out another retirement contract.

Could be a great transfer if it's a 2-3 year contract on relatively low wages.

Thiago won't come back.. Koeman prefers Wijnaldum and will get it probably while Liverpool will sign Thiago.. Another foolish transfer by Barca to sign Wijnaldum over Thiago..

Messigician is right.

Koeman is appointed by a board that can be ousted in less than a year and will prolly come with their own coach. Or Koeman might be out even if the current board is reelected. You can bring him players fitting the profiles he need but you don't necessarily need to buy a specific player.

Wijnaldum isn't exactly a world beater either, although a good player, and isn't young anymore.

I have seen some clubs being burdened with players chosen by ex coaches and not being in line with the new sporting project of the new coach. If you let the final choice to your Director of Football (Sporting Director or whatever way you name it), you mitigate the risks.
