He needs to be managed better now though, that is the reality. He is the greatest player of all time but he is 33 and human. His lack of contribution to pressing or the defensive phase is not sensible for modern football. With a better supporting cast capable of winning games without him too, he can prolong his career and make sure the last 5 or 6 years aren't synonymous with disappointment and historic defeats.
This is nothing new either, since Neymar left that creative burden has only increased for him, when it should be the opposite. The whole team lacks pace, power, athleticism and speed. To be playing a 4-4-2 against Bayern in 2020 with Messi and Suarez up top and Roberto and Vidal for width is absolutely criminal.

Honestly if I could walk into the locker room, forget history, forget who?s Catalan/Spanish/la masia and all that I?d hand it to Frenkie. Seems the only one willing to fight, to be somewhat vocal, and is honest with the press as early as the first few games of the season saying we weren?t playing well enough. Will never happen though unfortunately. After him I have no idea.

The main problem is the defence they are shocking, Barca could've actually scored about 5 or 6 with a bit more luck, Leo had one off the post and some deadly crosses. The likes of Roberto and Pique can't defend for their lives, players go past them like they're not there. Need a solid back 4 and keeper

for the love we have for messi but its the good for him to leave the club this year and join and a ready team to win trophies with them , he cant wait another wasting years to build the team ..
He should step down from his captaincy. That would be a nice gesture.
After that I hope he keeps us afloat next season (meaning finishing 1st-3rd in the league) while we are - hopefully- ruthlessly rebuilding. Cant see Suarez, Busquets, Semedo, Griezmann, Rakitic, Vidal and so many more anymore.
We are not here to serve Messi. If he wants to leave he is free to do so in 2021. We need him next season.

I can accept him staying and helping us in rebuild with some obligatory changes to his current untouchable chief Amigo status.
1. follows every tactical instruction.
2. can be subbed in any match.
3. his friends are gone.
4. will have a clearly defined role and will be susceptible to 2) happening if he disrespects that.
5. reduced wages.
6. in the time he is on the field he gives all he can, no more tolerance for extreme laziness.
Too much he has to change about his ways, and doubt he has the mentality and the sacrifice needed for that at this age. So I would move him based on this argument.
