Lionel Messi - v7

Even prime Messi would struggle to win with this team. Suarez is useless, griezmann is a flop, midfield has zero creativity and defence is too slow for a team that plays a high defensive line. There are just too many weaknesses. We need a new team

Sure but I feel anything can happen in these games. Experience might come in handy when there's only one game per knockout.

Setien being respectful towards Messi and telling him that there is a new plan that focuses on enabling Messi so that he needs not to worry about dropping deep and the players will work on giving him the ball so that he scores. Reality is Messi is ruining our midfield with counters from lost balls as he goes to the CM position

Messi is still easily world class and probably the best player in the world but prime Messi was just something else - alien tier. Even if we don't win, I think if you drop Messi 08-15 in this squad, he gets us far in the CL. There are no super teams around and the closest one to a super team (Pool) has been KOed. The top CL teams in his heyday were a lot stronger IMO. RM, Bayern, United, Inter etc. This Bayern every one raves about would get crushed by the Robbery combo backed up by Lahm/Alaba.

Everyone but Ibrahimovic and Etoo let go of their ego so that Messi ego could fit the locker room without issues and thus created was the great Messi. I believe Pep left because of him, and Xavi isn?t joining also because of him. I believe our boards are clowns because of him, and rumors of Messi deciding who to sign are lies that were created based on a clear truth everyone knows in the club. Messi is a baby that needs to be pleased and in return the club gets money and results. If god forbids one challenges Messi, he becomes passive aggressive towards him and would never face him man to man and discuss it, instead as an awful leader he will build tension in the air and discussing the actual issue becomes a taboo. No wonder EV was a perfect fit for him.

Obviously this is my intuition speaking and there are no facts that I am aware of that can prove my claims.

He also helped the us government create coronavirus, to drop player prices so we can get Neymar.

Of course we would have a better chance with prime Messi, but football is a team game at the end of the day. No one has ever won anything by themselves and they never will.

Etoo loves Messi and zlatan has always liked him. Pep is the one etoo and zlatan hate. I don't really believe all these dictator stories which come from the Madrid press. I can't remember any past or present player saying anything but good about Messi. Most just say he is a quiet, humble guy.

Don't mistake fantasy for intuition.

Although his points are exaggerated, there's quite a lot of things there which are not fantasy.

This ESPN article shares the same views that Messi is pulling the strings in the team behind closed doors, in conjunction with his veteran friends. You couple this article with live video vs Celta showing Messi flat out disrespecting the managers publicly... and there's a lot that makes sense there. Sure, if you're a fan of Messi the person, you can disregard all of that.

https://www.espn.com/soccer/barcelo...the-players-who-hold-the-powernot-the-manager

So, it's perfectly fine if people think Messi doesn't do that. But there's a lot that suggests he does as well.

Also, it's illogical if you think Amigos run the club, but spare Messi of major blame in this. If you think Amigos run the club and they use their seniority to influence things that are above their profession, then you have to follow through and be against Messi just by principle alone. There's no Amigos without Messi. Messi is Amigo no1. The worst things in the team can be seen with Messi: veterans stepping outside their boundaries, laziness, improper discipline, protecting soft managers, you name it. People act as if these are fine because he is great at playing football. But they're not.

The standard of football now is really poor. Very few top players and even less top teams.

Even Liverpool have a bang average midfield.

They don't have bang average midfield. They have very solid midfield, but without any superstars in it. The top teams today are not built with superstars, but with elite managers and hardworking top players.

This is true, but the teams back then had elite managers plus superstars. Pep, Mou (Inter, RM), SAF, Heynckes are all top drawer.
