In my GOAT conversations normally appear only three guys. Two of them because of different times, all of them wear the number 10 and none of them is called Cristiano.

Im assuming you arent that old, how do you really rank players from decades back with limited material to go on?
Ranking players from the same era is not that difficult, ranking players from other eras? That is more difficult.

That's why they are part of the conversation.

People would take him more seriously in GOAT conversations if he wasn't such an insecure, arrogant prick.

He is taken seriously in the GOAT conversation regardless. Only Barca fans and old school fans ,who think no one in current generation is great, aren't taking him seriously in this conversation.

For me, I don't really like GOAT conversation, but I think no player in the history was more dominant than Messi & CR7.
As what Lampard/Ferdinand/Lineker said in their famous talk couple of years ago, those are 2 players that no matter how big star you are and no matter your ego you can't help but looking to them and say I wish I was like that.

I only really believe in GOAT conversations according to positions, it makes no sense to compare players with entirely different roles than others to each other.
Compare LBs to Lbs, strikers to strikers, number 10s to numbers 10s and so on.

Well, the truth is some positions are more important than others in the way they affect the game.
having someone like Messi/CR7 in your team will always enhance your chances to win than having a Buffon/Roberto Carlos.
Never mind that positions are fluid thing. Is Messi a false 9, RW or SS? Was Rijkaard a CB or DM?
Comparisons in general are always difficult, and in many cases not needed.
But it is huge part of sport culture and its talks along transfers. Fans always dream about potential transfers and compare players all the time. More than discussing details of the game.
Don't like it, but as a wise man once said: It is what it is :valverde:

He's not even the best Ronaldo (he's just been more durable).

It's his longevity that stands him out. Loads of players have played at a similar (or higher level) for maybe a few seasons rather than the 15 years Ronaldo has continued to bang in goals. 07-12 probably his peak in terms of world class performances rather than the raw talent before then and the goal poacher and penalty kick of the last 5 years.

Ronaldo 2 la liga titles
Messi 6 la liga titles

Case closed, head to head duels messi owns him, no competition

Incredible scenes!!

Getting outscored by a 36 year old in his first season and a Sevilla/Dortmund flop in his second!

Best midfielder around
So now with the top scorer title out of reach he suddenly takes his first rest of the season? This guy, man. At least make it less obvious how much you care about individual awards and records. Last game was the longest travel of Juve’s domestic season, and even with the league won, he played every single minute. Now, at home against Roma, he is not even on the bench.
