Emerson

"Emerson's agents met with AC Milan for a hour and a half today. If a deal were to be closed, the operation would cost 30M. Barcelona would receive 15M subtracting the 6M that they paid in 2019 and what they should pay to Betis [milannews]"

What a shit deal lol, 15M...

15M profit for a young RB isn't that bad.

It is considering he even might have the potential to become a useful player for us. Now 30M seems reasonable, but us getting very little money from that fee is what bothers me.
Better let him stay at Betis and grab the whole transfer fee next year, even if he moves for as little as 20M.

It's a bad deal for Barca, and honestly feels rushed at this point.

You have to consider that we made almost no effort in developing that kid, he came from Brazil and played in Betis while we are the one who will get the biggest profit. Good business.

Well, it seems that we might have made our decision that he isn't the right player for us? Especially if Setien stays since he didn't rate him during his time in Betis.

Yeah but we can probably make a bigger profit. It's not as if he's being sold for 60M. If that'd been the case I'd understand the eagerness to sell. But to earn 15M.. come on, better gamble on him.
Because as you say, we spent very little money getting him, might as well take a chance.
He made his NT debut recently as well.

We have Semedo and Roberto and we'd have to pay to get Emerson back. At the moment I don't think he'd improve our team very much.
Because of that I'd have no problems letting him develop at Betis where he plays every single week.

Worst case we sell him for 15M next year instead.

Sometimes one offer comes and that's it.
And you never get a similar offer.

You need to take into the account that every young player is massively overrated by our fanbase.
Remember future starters Mina, Marlon, Wague, Todibo, world class player Grimaldo, Bartra, Montoya, Palencia etc

So, there is a chance that this is a one time opportunity.
Further, if Corona pandemic will continue, which seems very likely, there won't be football at all or we will have football without fans.
Which means new debts.
In that case, Milan and similar clubs will have less money next summer.
Yet, our contract with Emerson will stay the same.
We need to pay the same amount, agreed in the past.

So, basically, all teams will earn less and all players will lose their transfer value.

That means that our huge wages will become even a bigger problem soon.

I can see why they don't see Emerson as a Barcelona style defender. But still, I think the deal is to keep him in LaLiga and monitor his evolution for atleast a season more.

I'd keep him for the sheer fact they won't do anything useful with that money anyway.

They are selling him because they need cash to sign Martinez. That alone should be a reason to not sell him yet.

Absolutely agree.

Not really. Messi&Co. will be off the books soon.

But if you look from this standpoint then keeping Emerson who'll be on relatively low wages in comparision to Roberto or what Semedo will probably earn if he'll get a new contract makes even more sense.

I really see no reason to sell a player who has done well in his first full season in La Liga after coming from Brazil for just a small profit before he gets a chance to show what he can do at the club.

Well, it seems that we might have made our decision that he isn't the right player for us? Especially if Setien stays since he didn't rate him during his time in Betis.

Setien won't be here in 2021. Let Emerson stay at Betis for another season and then give a new coach chance to evaluate him.

And I doubt anyone is even asking Setien about his opinion, lol. As Konan has pointed out we're just raising money for Lautaro and since nobody wants our deadwood we'll sell players who could actually have a future at the club instead.

Emerson is playing in a position which we desprately need some change to and he's having a great season with Betis.

While we also need a Suarez replacment, who the hell in their right mind thinks spending over 100 million on Martinez is a good idea? especially considering how bad he as been since the new year. Guys like Barto, Abidal etc need to step back and be realistic here, why spend all this money on Martinez when the guy is either not going to well or be forced out of position in order to play Suarez who refuses to sit on the bench and they clearly don't want to move him on.

We do need a striker but having a good RB prospect like Emerson we can get back for cheap in a position which needs change as well. I'd rather go that direction that selling off any half decent fucking prospect we have because we can't get rid of the dead weight so we can fund a move for a guy who would likely not be good enough.

I guess it is about the next move.
Sure, if we are selling him to fund Lautaro it is a bad deal overall.
But if we are selling for 30M while a player like Sergino Dest is rumored to cost 25M and we are interested in him, then it doesn't look so bad IMO.

It's sadly going to be for Bartomeu's new project, 111m man Lautaro Martinez.

Do you rate Dest ?

From what I have seen of him , I just don't see him being better than Semedo.During those Ajax vs Getafe games Cucurella was the better player of the 2. He is quite fast but that's mostly it.
