21 - Frenkie de Jong

See his assist today. That’s the kind of stuff he can’t provide if he is wasted at DM.
Frankie’s best positions are the double pivot in a 4231 or the Xavi role in a 433 (not the DM nor advanced midfielder but has defensive cover to roam)

Perfectly said.

Frenkie de Jong impresses with his training stats

Technicians are amazed by De Jong: he has broken several records in physical tests The Dutchman is the most resistant, the one that recovers the best, the one that has the most aerobic capacity, the one that touches the most balls and the one that covers the most heat zones. since Barcelona introduced in its daily routine of work the technology to evaluate the physical parameters and resistance through the vests with GPS, had not been found with data as spectacular and even less so grouped as those of Frenkie de Jong. They say that the Dutchman has the characteristics of a "total athlete", with a "privileged" physicist who could "participate in the Olympic Games in medium and long distance races".

In all pre-season physical tests, friendlies, training sessions and official matches, the midfielder has outdone himself and seems not to have a roof over his head yet. He is the player who travels the most kilometres in a match, although because of his position on the pitch and the way he plays it might seem the opposite, he is the one with the greatest aerobic capacity to face an effort, the one that recovers better after a wear and tear, the most resistant, the one that touches the most balls and the one that covers the most heat zones on a pitch. All these data make him the most complete player in the squad.

In fact, some of the parameters that the Dutchman has achieved have never been seen since Barcelona resorts to this type of technology. His ability to recover from energy wear is far superior to any of his team-mates and his stamina to stay on the field without noticing the effort is almost insurmountable. Until now it was Rakitic and Sergio Busquets who had already reached the most spectacular figures a few years ago, but De Jong has swept them away with the stroke of a pen.

"It doesn't look like it, but it's a physical wonder, a beast," assumes one of the staff members, who admits that he didn't believe the first evaluation of data analyzed by GPS on the laptop, with ultra-wideband technology, during the premiere of the test this season.

Not surprised. A lot of players run a lot but next time we play look at the intensity De Jong press with. He sprints all the time. Its insane really.

We need one more player with that kind of intensity in the midfield to be relevant in the CL again. A more offensive minded central midfielder but with stamina and intensity like Frenkie. Van De Beek and Fabian Ruiz are great shouts. Great arguments for both.

What is it guys with you and assists? What we need is to control the game and not allow teams like Roma and Liverpool ride us like crazy the whole game and break our defense at will. Control the game, ease the pressure with our passing and kill them with the star forwards we have, because when teams press you they leave spaces behind those 1 or 2 waves of pressure.

You don't need crazy assists numbers from De Jong and Arthur ffs! We need them to combine well, relieve the pressure in central areas, and find our forwards with good passes. If they can do that and Valverde gets his tactics right unlike the previous seasons, we can beat anyone in Europe. You could see vs Inter that when we clicked we were two levels above them and Inter are one of the most in form teams in Europe.

What choice do we have? We're stuck with him for another season. Maybe the addition of De Jong and Griezmann plus the benching of Rakitic and the improved Arthur is enough. Maybe Suarez will score more in CL, he started very well with 2 goals in 2 games.

Every top team is vulnerable this year.

There's no question, Frenkie is indeed a very special player. He will mark an era at this club and hopefully the player will be surrounded with talent to win as much as possible. At this age, Iniesta came off the bench to make the difference in a CL Final before marking an incredible decade after - I think we can expect similar impact.

We are so fortunate to have the player, just have to ensure a great team is built around him

If we start with arthur and frenkie every bigger fixture, id be totaly calm. We can take on anyone, and then luck would tell who would win/advance.

Just hope Valverde will keep giving him (and Arthur for that sake) breaks, with his work ratio, he is bound to run dry at some point if not given breaks. He is maybe our most important player this season.

Good point. It's first time since long time that i feel calm watching Barca against anyone. Arthur and Dejong brings calmness to our play. We have problems in defense due to aging Pique and not 100% reliable partners in CB position, as well as aging Alba and lack of good replacement for him. Great that Semedo is starting to look world class, on both wings if needed.

And that thing about Dejong's physicality. He doesn't look like some physical beast, a schoolboy (tm)BBZ, but when i see him struggle for ball he almost always seem to win it. He's tenacious and tireless and always playing with great spirit. Like a combo between young Arthuro Vidal and Zidane, when it comes to technique and ball control. Not even Valverde can spoil that. Notice, how he moves off the ball. I doubt Valverde instructs any of our players to be so active. He does that by instinct.

Yes, Arthur and De Jong are a must in every big game we play and must be cared for (injury, burn out and etc.)

The only thing EV needs to focus on is to find that 3rd midfielder. In the current squad, that would be Vidal for me with DJ as the pivot.
