Matthijs de Ligt

I know you watched a lot of EPL matches but Kante under Sarri was not playing as RW

He never played his normal ‘holding’ role as Jorginho was put there in his place .. he played right wingback / right midfield where he was expected to be more creative/ forward thinking ... not even close to playing to his strengths..

Quotes
Gallas has become the latest ex-player to express his exasperation at Kante’s new role. He said: ‘I don’t understand why Sarri insists on playing him out of position. I had the opportunity to watch a few Chelsea games this season and it’s clear that N’Golo struggles to play on the right-hand side; it’s difficult for him.
The World Cup winner has been playing in an unfamiliar right-sided role for most of the season - and it's baffled fans and pundits alike

Chelsea news: Maurizio Sarri is ‘stupid’ to keep playing N’Golo Kante out of position, says Tony Cascarino

It seems nonsensical to move one of the best defensive midfielders in the world out of his preferred position - Kante now starts on the right of a midfield three - but Sarri has stuck with his ideology, despite the criticism.

Sarri brought Jorginho with him from Napoli and the 60-year-old decided that it would be the new arrival, not Kante, who would play in front of the defence.

Kante has instead played further forward, with Sarri asking him to contribute in the attacking phases.

Yes all 3 of the defenders you mentioned were very fast. Especially Maldini and Koeman who played fullback many times Due to their speed

Maldini fast ? I think we have different opinions then. Koeman was one of the greatest. But he was slow as a brick.

Anyway... the point i was trying to make is that a world class defender doesn't have to be very quick. You can compensate lack of pace with anticipation, intelligence and positioning.

De Ligt plays with a lot of space behind him. And he never had a problem with pacey players.

He played as the right sided cm in a 3, to be precise. And has never to my knowledge played consistently as a sole def mid. At Leicester certainly he played as a pressing mid in a 2 with Drinkwater sitting, and for France he plays alongside Pogba. As the more defensive of the two, sure, but this idea that Kante's a Makelele type isn't true imo; his main attribute is the ground he covers. All Sarri changed was to set his starting point a little higher, and asked him to contribute more going forward. Whether this was the best use of Kante's abilities is debateable, but it's certainly not the insane move you and tbf many pundits would have you believe it was.

Weren’t his two errors in the CL finals due to pace?

No,

Only thing you could blame him (and Blind). Why playing so offensive, with such a generous lead ?

Look where De Ligt is standing when Moura was scoring the 2-1. He was just playing as a right winger. Doesn't make sense. An Italian coach would never let him do that.

Instead of defending, De Ligt was trying to score the 3-0 lol.
I know Ajax stands for attacking football. But sometimes you need to defend a lead.

He will learn that at Juve i guess.

To be fair I’ll take Gallas’s view over yours any day of the week ..

Matthijs has signed with Juve and there are Barca fans, who are still talking about him. That is so stupid to me. Get real dudes. Get over it. What he will do in Italy is not your GD business.

This is the "other player" section. So it's fine.
Just don't need the bitterness on here.

Let him do his thing. We do our thing. Looking forward to see him play on a higher level.

De Ligt: "I'm very surprised by the criticisms, everyone thought I had to go to Barcelona. But in the end I decide, Raiola is the best agent in the world and that's why I chose to have someone like him next to me. I laugh when I see that some people think he decides my team for me."

We have other priorities other than Money De Ligt

Thiago silva is 35 and still a starter, Chiellini too, Zanetti was a boss, Cofu, Alves, Puyol, Maldini, Nesta hoesntly Pique is young for a CB.
